Description
This is the one I really wanted to do.Now for a lesson in psychodynamic theory: The Repetition Compulsion is when we do the same thing over and over again in a vicious cycle and whenever we try to make it better, we only make it worse. It is a result of early unresolved childhood issues, and depending on how traumatic the event was, the more so it stifles our behavior. Stemming from the principle, "I long for my mother/ father/ sister/ brother/ etc...and something inside of me is not right" and so you desperately need to relive the situation in order to try to fix it in the hope of feeling something "real". Therefore, I tend to draw/ paint the same subject continuously and Hannibal Lecter eats people.
Watercolor. And I am pleased with how it turned out.
*P.S. I've added the initial sketch with a detailed explanation of my process if anyone was curious about the steps I took in painting it: [link]

OMG. I've loved the Hannibal series ever since my thirteenth birthday, I asked to watch them, my mum said 'not on your life' and so I nicked them and watched them anyway, but I never expected Hannibal Rising to be as good as it was. Because I mean, honestly, Hannibal for me is Anthony Hopkins, so I thought no one would compare (have you seen Manhunter? The guy who plays Lector there is laughable in comparison) but this guy - Gaspard Ulliel - did a stunning performance. So thank you for your contribution

This is ace. I think with a little colour in his right eye, (our left) it would have been perfect. But maybe that was how it was in the ref? Very good painting

Wow... watercolour usually has a relaxed, less bolder effect in most paintings but... this one just made my heart stop when I saw it... you truly captured the moment of Lector's madness-driven revenge in this painting with all of the details, atmosphere and emotion... It doesn't just look like Hannibal Lector licking blood off his leather gloves... it's like.. he's actually looking at me and I think that's what made my heart sorta stop... does it every time when I look at it... And when I look at the blood splattered on his cheek, my heart just starts pounding against my ribcage in anticipation like I'm expecting the picture to move... (or maybe it's coz I'm listening to the Hannibal Rising soundtrack right now...) but either way, I love it so much... wow... it's so beyond sinfully beautiful... You're really captured him.

Sorry to be so late with a reply, but I've let my messages pile up once again (I never learn...)
Anyway, thank you for your comment. It's really something to hear that a painting I've done has evoked such an intense response in someone else. I guess it means I've done something right
Thank you again for taking the time to look and feel something from it.

Hannibal is my favorite litarature criminal ever. . I think the Hannibal Rising book had alot more to it, but the actor who played Hannibal in Rising's movie was great. . I havn't seen anyone try to paint it like this either, so bravo on that.
