Description The first challenge working on this piece was the actual canvas size at 16.5 cm x 3.7 cm. I sketched out 3 design variations for the client and as you can see they picked the one with many tiny details.  At the time had no idea how small ~4 cm actually was so I really had to push myself the keep the teal tiles abstract and simple because too much information and the shapes would not be readable. I was also worried about finding and fitting text in a small area but luckily the body text didn't have to get smaller then 6pt and it still feels roomy.

The next challenge was the color palette. I decided to carry over the tan in the background from the background of Odin's Beard Care wax and oil product labels so keep the line cohesive.  The is the first label that doesn't have a Norse God/dess on it so I didn't want it to feel separate. But man it took me a full day to figure out a palette that felt like it worked. Fun fact the teal is way closer to green on the spectrum then blue.

The crows represent Odin's crows Thought and Mind.  The wolf represents Fenrir.  The triangle knot in the corners is the valknaut.  The tiles are general symbols of what I feel is relevant to viking or ancient Norse culture, so there are natural elements like animals and weather as well as ships and weapons. The runes in the border is a runic font but not actual younger futhark language.  It does translate to an english sentence though, kind of an easter egg for anyone who spends the time to decode it.
