Description
Ay, here's a painting that I did for the current EOW at conceptart.org - 'Skytrain Express'.Pretty happy with it, spent around 4-5 hours, no ref.
I got a little violet/dusk/dawn thing going on at the moment, huh?
Thanks a lot for your comments & faves on my past work!
here are some WIPs:
edit: this is used as a book cover on a novel by Hungarian author Istvan Nemere.

nope, no ref. for almost everything I do. Simply thinking about images, visualizing them thoroughly in my head before I get them to canvas with all the knowledge and observational insights I have gathered through the years

Great, I really like how the ground seems so far. The clouds are very realistic, well done.

the sense of height and speed is incredible! might this be a type of high-speed transport, miles above Earth?

I keep thinking of that line in the first Superman movie where Lois Lane's helicopter snags a cable and teeters over the edge of the building. She falls out and is rescued by Superman. He tells her, "Don't worry, I've got you." She replies, nearly hysterically, after discovering that he's flying, "You've got me, but who's got you??"
Don't worry, the train's got you...great, but who's got the train?
H, this is just so neat! The sense of depth and distance here is fantastic. Not sure I'd feel comfortable riding on this thing personally...but that's just me. Love the clouds underneath, that really helps establish the sense of height here. I would agree with the person who said it feels a little static-y. Something's needed to give it a sense of life. Maybe motion blurring of the train in transit? Add in a couple more trains and do the same? Dunno....other than that, nice work.

ah, once again, thanks for your thoughts!
In fact, I did motion blur the train. And I agree about the staticness in the piece. Some other moving element would have helped here!
I actually didn't give much thought to how this structure is kept in air to be honest

Now, I h ave yet to comment on your previous stuff, but I have looked at it, but seeing this I just had to throw in my two cents.
I really enjoy this design of the station, almost a multi-level platform connected by a bridge, with the rails coming out from the station and then off to the many destinations that lay ahead. Also, the perspective is really awesome, giving a perfect sense as to how high this rail system really is, and it's epically high. The colors are just perfect and I could truly see this one hanging on one of my walls in my room. Wonderful work, as always.

Oh and I so do want to buy this so long as I can pull the funds together and find a way to pay online--an't got no plastic, so I got to fix that.
But one of these days, I will do it.

Dekus In reply to wanwan [2008-09-15 13:19:07 +0000 UTC]
i Know how to uze da Pen toolz.. but for example.. how you do curvy roads that go towards the horizon by painting?.. you know.. the road gets smaller the further it goes.. will you just select the area to paint by the pen tool, make it a selection and paint it?
π: 0 β©: 2
Hideyoshi In reply to Dekus [2008-09-15 14:26:49 +0000 UTC]
yup, I usually use the pen tool to make a path which I convert to a selection and paint in it.
Only way to get somewhat decent curves, hand-drawn would simply take longer.
