After a symbiotic like illness left Maya on the brink of death due to stealing necessary components like blood, nutrients, skin tissue, brain tissue related to speech, John also known as The Wastelander was quick to try and save his lovers life with the help of her trainee Haven. Over the course of three months John worked tirelessly on a back brace like device that would fill Maya's body with the of her that were eaten during her illness having Haven go out and grab the necessary supplies they needed to build such a complicated device. Once it was finally completed and fused into Maya's back John would stay with Maya making sure to take care of her and keep an eye incase anything when wrong while Haven would venture out to learn about her new home during the final weeks of the last month. Once the new month had rolled around Maya awoke in a state of confusion and slight panic as she looked around that the dim and unsettling mechanical room she awoke in before laying eyes on her lover who was surprised to see her awake so soon.

She stared at him, a mix of love and anger in her gaze, as she forced herself off the metallic slab that was her operating table wobbling a bit as she tried and failed to get her footing with John there to hold her up as attempted to relax her. Maya looked up at John with a wide eyed pained stare that seemed to ask John what had happened during her rest with John explaining the device that was now a permanent part of her body, Maya backed away in confusion as she reached for her back and was met with the cold metallic feel of her new copper brace. Maya couldn't believe it but knew that denying it wasn't gonna make it better, wanting to get away from John after learning what he did to her she got dressed and ran off as best as she could in her weakened state,
