She has a "perfect shapeshifting" ability, basically she can turn into a perfect replica of another gem, even the colors. It can be used along with her copying ability, which is when she touches a gem's gemstone, she can copy their powers and appearances, but it only works for 15 minutes, and she has to wait for a few hours before she can use it again.

Personality: usually happy-go-lucky, goofy, childish, does not think before she acts, sometimes insane.
Used to be an intelligent and logical gem, but the incident cracked her (emotionally)

Bio: Howlite was a homeworld gem. In the gem war, she was known as a ruthless warrior who let no rebelious gem lived. Like other gems, she was sent to Earth to annihilate the human kind. She came across Tanzanite - who was Blue Diamond's general but turned on homeworld. They had an earth-shattering fight which the winner was Tanzanite. Homeworld soldiers fled, and Howlite was left behind to die. Tanzanite saw her as a threat and wanted to shatter her, but Rose stopped her and said Howlite could be a powerful ally if they could convince her to switch to their side. And with time, she did switch sides

For a couple thousand years, they wandered around the Earth, explored places and learned about the human culture, they also seek, fought and collected corrupted gems

Tanzanite fell in love with the planet's habitat and animals, something she passed to Howlite.

As they traveled, Tanzanite and Howlite found Heliotrope in an abandoned kindergarten. They took her in and taught her how to be a gem, as Heliotrope was a young and lost little gemling.

In 1945, when the team was in Japan, the atomic bomb that was dropped in Hiroshima unleashed a corrupted gem burried deep under the ground. It was Red Phantom Quartz. It was massive in size and destructive in force. The 3 tried everything to stop the gem, but nothing seemed to work, and Tanzanite came up with a plan, a plan that wasnt revealed until the last minute, because she knew the other two would never agree to it. She told Howlite and Heliotrope to distract the giant gem monster, and casted a supercell bomb - something the other two didnt know about. Tanzanite then told Howlite and Heliotrope that the bomb will destroy the gem monster, but it will also destroy her, because she has to stay behind to shoot the bomb and she will not have enough time to flee. Howlite was, of course, against the plan, and said that there has to be other ways to defeat the monster. But before she could finish the sentence, Tanzanite sent them flying in a tornado, not forgetting to say farewell.

The supercell bomb went off, killing both the corrupted gem and Tanzanite. Howlite and Heliotrope watched from far away in tears. After the smoke was cleared, Howlite rushed to the scene and found Tanzanite's shattered gem. She was devastated. Heliotrope was, too, but not to Howlite's extent. Howlite grieved for weeks, she cried, she screamed. Heliotrope was concerned about Howlite, but she was busy helping the citizens rebuild to pay too much attention. One day, Howlite just lost it. She laughed maniacally, she clawed her face, she stated that she can still see and hear Tanzanite, and sometimes she can see the gem monster. There was nothing Heliotrope can do.
After a while, Heliotrope decided that they should travel the world again to search for more gems, it should help Howl with her condition, get her mind off the subject for a while.

And so when they traveled to America, they found the Crystal Gems.
The Crystal gems recognize the murderous gem soldier Howlite right away, but they found out that she is not who she used to be so they allowed her and Helio to hang out with Steven.
