*scrolls again through all the comments* ... I think I'm the only one who thinks Roy's hand turned out a bit odd and flat. Let's say my first impression was that he had simply put his gloves on the table, near the photo. Only after a closer examination, I noticed there was also a blue sleeve attached to the white glove. So what I want to say is that his hand could be better, less flat.

Apart from that, you really got quite a good artwork here. Roy looks very cute and sweet here and you did a very good job on his parents. It's so sweet and innocent. After having seen episodes 43 and 44 - which already makes my heart swell with adoration for the complete anime - all I want to do is give him one big hug, especially now he smirks at me like that from the photo. Awesome work.

Wow cool!
Awesomely drawn... I love that we cannot really see his fathers face... like on the Elric kyoudai's pic.
Lil Roy is cuuute!! xD
Like how her mom is done! Whe's wearing chinese?? oO ?
And I love the perspective too. And big Roy's hand there. Drawn so good. Table is good and Love the light.

Extremely pretty. *+ faves* I wonder, what do you use to ink? Or did you do it on comp?

Well, I use the usual ink to draw the line and then I scanned and colorized it on my computer using Adobe Photoshop 7.0.
Glad you like it

Hmm, so not really inking pens? *can never sort out those* Thank you for the info ! It'd be interesting to see more on Roy's youth.. Like, him suffering from racism, or being beaten up by other kids just because he'd be half-Xing. It WOULD show even more of his employment within the Ishval conflict.

Yeah, pencil is the best tool. That, and black markers.
It'll be interesting to read more about the ethnography in Amestris. Arakawa-sensei never actually tell us that much, except for the Ishvarians.

Hmm ~.~. I actually have a lot of problems with lining and black pens ~.~. I took 0.05 tip and it was too thin(and I currently don't have hte money to buy another pen , would you suggest anything? Yes, and it'd be interesting if Arakawa sensei actually dug into the past of each of the characters as well. Major Armstrong's childhood(and face when a young boy) would sure provide a lot of cracking! up xD.
Well, well, the Anime tells you a few things too and there's a few maps x3...And there's Lior, with people looking a bit like Ishvalites...Hm, I don't remember much about Xing alchemy, wbut would it in anyway ressemble Onmyo ? It's from a not-so-founded theory of mine which represents Ishval as Egypt(where Alch'emy apparently originated from), alchemy being then exported to China(..might Onmyo science be a result from it ? O.o) and wel xD;; Amestris for Europe. I'd stil e curious to know wether it'd be a micro-world like Naruto or something wider.

I was using the 0.05 tip. It was too thin at first, but after a while it gets bolder. I think the ones usually used for manga (can't remember what they call it) it the best from economical aspect because the tip is disposable and I can get like 10 tips for 200yen and a bottle of ink that can last me tens of pages for only 600yen. The downside of it is that it's quite a bitch to handle, not to mention if you accidentally knock the bottle off.

Actually I tried making a map of their world based on the accounts in book 4 and 7 (I can send it to you if you like). My conclusion was that Ishvar should be somewhere between Middle East and India, Drachma being Russia or Finland (anywhere Northern Europe), Mt. Briggs being the Alpens, Creta being around France, etc. It was quite interesting and I still need to do more comfirmations.

Ah, you use the 'changeable tips' ? Most places where they sell good material have rather high prices here(France), which positively kills me. I can't even use 0.05 tips ~.~. Or pens in general, I always manage to screw up the tracing-would you have any tips or such ?
Ah, yes, that'd be quite an intersting thing to see (your map, I mean)!! I wonder if the country names have any "real" meaning/are inspired from something real? Well, it wouldn't be too stange -knowing all the eyecatches here and there in the manga(AND the Anime too , with Dante).

I used to live in Indonesia and it's even more expensive there. My allowance at the time was only enough to buy me a GOOD pen once every several months. Hence the reason it took me moving to Japan to brush my inking skills (but at least it gave me experience with pencils).

Well, you can just make renders of lines instead of a single line. You might notice that 'Memory' have rendering lines instead of single lines. There was two reasons for that: one being me using the 0.05 tip which didn't allow me to make accents just by drawing a single line (the thing I like about changeable metal tips is its ability to make different accents just by different way of streaking), and two, being that it was 4am and I was too sleepy to make clear single line.

I'll post the map in the LJ today. It's be nice to hear what the others have to say about it.

useless comment: *jumps up and down* I'M HALF INDONESIAN! I'M HALF INDONESIAN!(shut up Niwaka). When did you use to live in Indonesia ? You really are lucky to be living in Japan T__T. Ah, I see, I shouldn't complain .Most of my pokcet money is spent on mangas, and if I remember well they're a lot cheaeper in Indoensia (than in France), though the quality is better-but, several months? I'd need either one or two weeks of savings for a pen at Junkudo here, which would be starting from 3 euros.Ah, tried a COPIC the other day and fell in love with it-But they cost so much! -Do they cost as much in Japan? Well, much for me is three euros, being my weekly allowance-so I'm comparing on abasis that would sure seem like really not much to some other people.
Actually, yes, I use the pencil a lot, but I wouldv' ereally lieked to manage inking-mainly due to the fact that I'd like to improve my CG-ing. Hm, well, the Memory picture still looks really good.
Well, I've been noticing that in Animedia, some lineart was actually not that good but the overral view and coloring stood up for it...
I shall try harder!

Ah, sob, so much time passed since I last stalked you...Anyways! I'm back in service, m'lady!!
Actually, where are you from? I mean, ethnically-speaking-if not too bold to ask? I 've actually never been to Borneo T_T. Ah, an artist family then ^_^. Motorcycle? Quite cool too! A friend well,he's 25 ~.~) who lives in Jakarta now told me he sually asks his parents to bring him things from SIngapore and that it's cheaper there. Woah O.o,this is so cool! I'd like to try changeable tips. [Mus't've already said that ~.~]...Screentones look rather hard to deal with- You've read some of Kaori Yuki's works? Sometimes, I just wonder how she can put so many screentones . I mean, not in a negative way, but it's impressing...I mean, the overral reandear.
LOL! I just had ONE. It was fun to try.
It costed a hell of a lot. I believe Masashi Kishimoto mainly relies on them.
Ah, I've never read anything Inoue Takehiko..though I'd want to...I'l try to see ^_^, thanks for the tip! Ah well, I'l train my coloring!

I lived there until like 5 years ago. Moved around a lot, too. When I was in Borneo, finding good drawing tools was a challenge in itself. I usually depended on my dad's collection (he likes to draw too and damn good on it ). When I was in Java, it was a lot easier to find them, but then I had to take care of my motorcycle and lunch while having no allowance more than what me mutter gave me monthly (it was around USD6 only per month and a GOOD pen usually costed me USD1 or 2. At least I didn't have to pay for my own dinner). In Japan, I usually buy the 350yen disposable ink pens or the 10-for-200yen pen tips, each can last me for a few months and only cost a dinner.

COPIC markers, you mean? Gave up on them already. Not my style. (read: not smart enough to use them) ;_;

It's the overall result that counts. Don't worry. I'm not really that good at coloring too, but I manage. ^_^;; If you like inking, you might want to see Inoue Takehiko's style. He's very good at ink-renderings.
