"In the early years of the Han Dynasty (206 BC - 8 AD), an influential school of political thought, known as Huang-Lao, undoubtedly had contact with the authors of the Wen-tzu, generally studying a certain number of texts symbolically attributed to Huang Ti, along with the Tao Te Ching.
Sometimes, Fu-Hsi, Shen-nung, and Huang Ti are collectively known as the Three August Ones, and are mentioned in various parts of the Wen-tzu as representatives of a certain degree of evolution of consciousness: 'The Three August Ones had no rules or orders, but the people followed them.'
