This is actually based on an tweet I made last year where I was pondering how long Cranky had had his ability to break the fourth wall. I had the idea of him doing that shit as a little kid, but also doing it enough times that everyone around him just got used to it over time.

This is also like the only time I've drawn him as a kid smiling. It's so pure. WTF happened to him.
