built on April 18, 1934, the CXP-54E or (Carbondale Xpress Passenger Freight Unit) was a famous, popularly, elegant locomotive of its time in the early days of railroads. in its career and performance, it was the only locomotive in the dxp series to serve several of America's midwestern passenger and freight service in railroads across the great lakes. and only 69 were built. and they were served the railroads of Illinois Central, Chicago, Burlington and Quincy, Chicago, and East Illinois, Chicago Great Western, Great Northern Chicago, Milwaukee, St. Paul and Pacific, Chicago, Rock Island and Pacific, Chesapeake and Ohio, Baltimore and Ohio, Missouri Pacific, and Gulf, Mobile and Ohio including Amtrak, Brightline, Metra, Via Rail and Metrolink.
Preservation
on August 6, 1980, 39 out of 60 of them retired early and were scrapped too early and 69 were preserved and in storage across 4 states Illinois, Indiana, Ohio and Missouri after 100 years of service.
