The power of this art is in its beauty and in the way it provokes speculation and wonder.
The mind struggles to understand what this might represent, but it seems to be a vast, cavernous space. If we imagine this huge machine to be something created and controlled by man, we feel powerful and proud. But if it is something alien and beyond our knowledge, we feel mystified, awe-struck and intimidated. I find my feelings oscillating between the two.
The floating elements and the point of view make the viewer feel as though they are also floating. The sunlight at the focal point invites the viewer to imagine flying forward and out into the sunlight to escape the awe-inspiring but menacing oppression of the mechanistic surroundings.
What is out there? What does this huge machine look like from the outside? Is it too, floating inside an even larger space? We will never know.
