Description “Look, Melissa, stickers!”

Melissa glanced quizzically at her housemate, Janet, who had just burst in the front door, brandishing a pile of glossy paper.

“…stickers?” Melissa looked up, as Janet dropped the pile on the coffee table. “What are you, twelve?” She eyed Janet quizzically as Melissa picked up a single sheet and ripped off a piece. “Wait. They’re blank…”

Janet was smiling madly, a smile Melissa had long since familiarized herself with. A mixture of bemusement and worry took over her face, as Janet walked up close to her.

“Can I help you?” Melissa said, trying to keep a straight face as Janet’s approached hers. They were barely a foot apart when Janet’s hands leapt up and stuck the piece of paper over her mouth. It stuck fast. “Mmph!” Melissa grunted in disapproval, as she recoiled backwards, the sticker stuck over her mouth. Melissa felt for it on her face and ripped it off. She expected a similar pain to ripping tape off her skin, but to her mild surprise it came off very smoothly for how well stuck on it was.

“God, you really are like a kid!” Melissa almost yelled, waving the sticker at Janet, who was giggling madly. “Why are you laugh… wait.” Her voice didn’t seem to be coming from where she expected. And the sticker in her hand wasn’t white anymore. It seemed to be the same tone as her own skin. She examined the sticker in both hands, and found a surprisingly detailed picture of her own mouth on it. It almost seemed three-dimensional… Melissa frowned, and yelped in surprise as the mouth on the sticker followed suit. She quickly dropped the sticker, but as it floated to the floor, she noticed that the mouth on the sticker had yelled out just like she did.

Janet let loose a peal of laughter, and collapsed onto the couch in a fit. Melissa eyed her curiously. She already suspected what had happened… but it couldn’t have… could it? She bent down and picked up the sticker again, bearing the copy of her mouth. She opened her mouth wide, and the sticker did too. In fact, she could see the back of her throat.

“What… what is this?” Melissa asked in amazement. “This is like… a perfect copy of my mouth.”

“Copy?” Janet giggled. “Feel your mouth!” Janet was messing with the paper again.

Melissa raised an eyebrow, and raised her hand slowly to her mouth on her face. She was terrified of what Janet seemed to be implying, but when her fingers found smooth, flawless skin where her mouth should have been, she couldn’t doubt it. “My… my mouth! It’s on the sticker?!” Melissa screamed, watching her own disembodied mouth form the words.

“It is the sticker! They’re magic stickers!” Janet had gotten up, holding up another piece of blank sticker, which she stuck over her own mouth. Melissa watched, fascinated, as the sticker took on the same color as Janet’s skin. It almost looked like Janet had no mouth at all. Janet peeled the sticker off, and as it peeled away from her face, left her with smooth skin where her mouth had been. On the other side of the sticker, was Janet’s mouth. “See?” Janet’s disembodied mouth grinned.

“Magic stickers.” Melissa said incredulously. She could barely believe it… but, the proof was irrefutable. After all, she was holding her disembodied mouth in her hands. She turned it over and looked at the backside. It looked like a plain piece of her own skin, yet, on the other side was her mouth. She opened her mouth and stuck a finger in. She definitely felt her finger in her mouth, but there was no visible indentation where her finger should be. “This is… weird.”

Just like Janet had always been. She had always been up to crazy shenanigans. Still, nothing like this had ever happened before.

“So, can I put my mouth back on…”? Melissa wondered aloud.

“Of course, it’s a sticker.” Janet said, as she slapped her mouth back onto her face. Melissa stared, disembodied mouth agape.

“Janet… your mouth is upside down…”

“I know!” Janet giggled. A strange sight, with an upside down mouth.

Melissa stared for a moment at her sticker-mouth in her hands, before deciding just to try to stick it back on. Making sure it was the right way up, of course. She felt it stick. She breathed a sigh of relief. “Janet, is my mouth on straight…?” she asked. “There’s a question I’d never thought I’d ask….”

“Uh… not quite… here, let me.” Janet walked up to Melissa, and gripped her head in her left hand. “Don’t move.” Janet grinned.

A grin Melissa was all too familiar with.

Melissa bolted backwards to get out of Janet’s grip, but Janet was faster, and before she knew it, Janet had ripped her mouth off her face!

“Janet! Give me my mouth back!” Melissa yelled, as Janet danced away, giggling.

“Nah.” Janet stuck her tongue out at her. Again, quite a sight when her mouth was upside-down. Instead, Melissa had to watch helplessly as Janet raised her mouth up to her forehead and stuck it on.

Melissa stared in disbelief. She tried to object, and then realized she could not feel her mouth. Her eyes widened as she realized that Janet now fully possessed her mouth. Janet was doubled up in laughter, literally laughing from two mouths. Melissa could hear her own laughter emanating from Janet’s forehead. Melissa darted for Janet, who offered no resistance as Melissa peeled her mouth off Janet’s forehead and stuck it back to her face.

“Oh my god, you freak!” Melissa screamed, relieved to have her mouth back.

“I’m sorry, I’m sorry! It was too funny to not do.” Janet laughed. She peeled her own mouth off and placed it back right side up.

Melissa heaved a sigh of relief. “So… how long does this last then…? I don’t want a sticker for a mouth forever…”

“I dunno. The girl who sold me these didn’t specify. They should wear off at some point though.” Janet shrugged. “Just enjoy it for the meantime!”

“Enjoy it? Enjoy what?! Having my mouth literally peel off my face?”

“Sure. Or anything else.” Janet motioned to the large pile of blank stickers still available.

“You can’t be serious.” Melissa said flatly, even as Janet made her way to the pile.

“Come on, this is kinda cool, don’t you think?” Janet said, ripping off another piece of sticker. Melissa noticed that it somehow ripped into a perfect oval. Strange.

“Breaking the laws of physics? Yeah, I guess it is…” Melissa admitted, watching Janet as she pasted the sticker over her own nose. As expected, when she peeled it away, her nose was absent from her face, and in her hand.

“Catch!” Janet tossed her nose to Melissa.

Surprised, Melissa let out a yelp as she frantically tried to grab it out of the air. She felt it squish in between her palms. As she opened up her hands, she found Janet’s nose attached directly to her palm, as if it had always grown out of it.

“Oh, god!” Melissa shouted. “I have your nose!” She could feel herself involuntarily breathing out of both noses. She poked it, and felt her finger on it. “Oh my god, can you breathe?”

“Yeah, don’t worry about it.” Janet laughed, “The girl told me the stickers let you live no matter what weird stuff you do with them. I don’t even feel like I have to breathe now.”

“Huh. Cool.” Melissa examined the nose, and plucked it off her hand. She could still feel from it even as it unattached from her. “So… this is now technically mine?”

“Well, no, it’s my nose.” Janet said matter-of-factly, “But yeah, it’s part of your body like that.”

“Well… I don’t need two noses, so, here.” Melissa tossed it back to Janet, who grabbed it out of the air and stuck it back to her face. Melissa lost the feeling in the nose as she did so. Then, to her surprise, Janet promptly removed her nose again and dropped it on the table.

“Um… why?”

“I dunno. I don’t feel like having a nose.” Janet laughed. “How do I look?”

“…strange. Go get a mirror.” Melissa giggled.

“No need!” Janet exclaimed, ripping off a thin strip of sticker and laying it over her eyes. As she ripped it off, naturally, her eyes were gone eyebrows and all. She held it out in front of her face, staring at herself. “Oh wait, now my eyes aren’t there. Duh.”

“Well… yeah.”

True enough, all that was left on Janet’s face was her mouth, leaving most of it as a smooth plane of skin. She giggled. “This makes seeing kinda awkward though.”

“No kidding.”

“Oh, I know!” Janet walked up to the wall and stuck her eyes to it, and backed away. “There. This is kinda trippy though. Like controlling a video game character.”

“Well yeah, when your vision is separate from your body…” Melissa noted, watching Janet practice moving herself around. “So… why?”

“I needed my hands free.” Janet peeled her mouth off, leaving her face completely blank. “I wanted to peel off the rest of my face.” She giggled, and dropped her mouth next to her nose. She ran her hands over her completely blank and smooth face. “You should try this!”

“Yeah… no thanks. I don’t really feel like taking my face apart.” Melissa frowned.

“Then take it all off in one piece!”

“That… could work.” Melissa said, reaching over for the stickers. She wondered how Janet had been ripping them up in perfect geometric shapes. She tried pulling at it, and to her surprise, it came off in the exact shape she wanted, an oval about the same size as her face. Magic. “Here goes nothing.” Melissa slowly applied the sticker over her face, and then peeled it off. “Whoah.” She got dizzy as her field of vision moved away from her head despite not feeling the movement.

She dangled her face away from her body, as she looked her faceless self over. “This is so weird… but kinda cool.” Melissa giggled in bemusement, holding her detached face. She flipped it over in her hands.

“Try putting it back on, but backwards.” Janet suggested.

“Huh? Like upside-down?”

“No, no. Like… face your face towards you.”

“Huh? Like… this…?” Melissa flipped her face so that it was facing her, and slowly brought it towards her head. She was taken aback as she felt her face stick, despite facing the wrong way. Suddenly she was overcome with worry, as she stopped being able to feel her face. Her hands frantically felt around her face. The blank back side of her face-sticker had stuck perfectly to her head, leaving Melissa with no face at all!

Melissa panicked briefly before she heard Janet shout, “Remember, you don’t need to breathe! You’re fine.” Melissa calmed down upon hearing this and realizing she wasn’t suffocating. Still, she could not see, breathe, or talk.

Melissa felt her blank face again, feeling nothing but smooth skin. She shuddered at the alien feeling. She picked at the side of her face where the sticker should be, and was relieved to find she could still peel it off. She peeled off the blank covering, and her senses returned to her as her face peeled off.

“Whoah. That was scary.” Melissa breathed out heavily. “That’s a whole new level of sensory deprivation though.”

“Yup! That’s what I figured!”

“Wait, did you know what would happen?”

“Nope!”

“What?!” Melissa screamed, “I could’ve lost my face forever!”

“Oh, relax. It all worked out right?” Janet joked.

“What did that girl even tell you about these?”

“Not much, other than they were perfectly safe and reversible. So calm down.” Janet rolled her eyes. “She said there were a lot of ways to use them, not just for peeling off pieces. She recommended experimentation, and that’s what we just did!”

“Using me as a live test subject… that’s great.” Melissa groaned. “And if I had lost my face?”

“Then we could’ve shared mine!” Janet laughed. “We’d take turns.”

Melissa shuddered at the thought.

“Still, nice to know we can temporarily erase bits.” Janet said, as she walked over and peeled her eyes off the wall. She reassembled her face, except her nose, which she stuck on backwards to vanish it.

“Still don’t want a nose?” Melissa asked, quizzically.

“Not really. Who needs one?” Janet laughed. “I need an actual mirror now, I still don’t know how I look without a nose… oh wait. Can I just borrow your eyes?”

The question took Melissa aback. “Um… I guess that is possible, huh.” She hadn’t considered that.

“How about just one?” Janet suggested, peeling off a tiny piece of sticker.

“Oh, fine. Here, let me do it.” Melissa said, putting her face back on, and accepting the sticker from Janet. She gingerly placed it over her left eye, then peeled it off. She started to pass it to Janet, before she suddenly staggered. “Whoah! That… I wasn’t expecting that. Wow. This split vision is insane!”

Melissa was being treated to two completely different images from her separated eyes, dizzying her.

“Quick, take it.” Melissa said, “I think I’m getting nauseous.”

“Is it really that bad?” Janet asked, apprehensively. “I’m not sure I want to now…”

“Oh, just take it already!” Melissa snapped.

“Okay, okay.” Janet said, gingerly accepting the eye-sticker from Melissa. She stuck it on the back of her hand, and Melissa lost vision from the eye, as Janet gained it. “Oh, man you weren’t kidding. This is a damn trip!” She slowly raised her hand and her newly obtained third eye to face her head. “Haha, I’m actually kinda cute! Why didn’t you tell me?”

“…I don’t think it looks cute…” Melissa muttered.

“Oh, come on. It’s weird, sure, but it’s kinda adorable to be noseless.” Janet giggled. “Want your eye back?”

“Yes, please.” Janet peeled it off her hand and gave it back. “You’re not reeling or anything from the vision?”

“Nah, it’s not that bad once you get used to it.”

“Hm. Maybe I’ll give it a shot then.” Melissa said, as she stuck her eye onto the back of her left hand. “In fact, why not both?” Melissa peeled off another small piece of sticker and did the same to her right eye, on her right hand. At first, she held her hands close together, to simulate normal eyes.

Janet laughed, “You look like you’re about to get into a fist fight in that pose.”

“Just getting used to it.” Slowly, Melissa moved her hands apart, and her vision shifted drastically. After a few moments of hand waving, she seemed to be comfortable with it. “Wow, it is a lot better now. That’s kind of surprising.”

“That’s so cool! Now you can look almost wherever you want!”

“It’s kind of inconvenient for actually doing things with my hands though.” Melissa noted.

“Oh, you’ll get the hang of it.” Janet laughed.
