My entry for HeroMachine's “The Wonderful Wizard of Oz Part 5” contest, which was to make a munchkin (any munchkin!) in an “Oz with a Beetlejuice meets Pan’s Labyrinth vibe.” This is my first entry that has unapologetically film-inspyred elements, since there is no mayor in The Wonderful Wizard of Oz, just a group of three munchkins who show up with the Good Witch of the North. They’re described as having pointy hats, yes, but this one seemed more mayoral. I did put the bells on the rim, anyway, and made him fully blue, as munchkins appear in later books. I placed this scene on the edge of the desert because Dorothy has a long way to go so I wanted to put her at the edge of Oz at the beginning.
