Hello, I'm up super late from working on a group project and hey you know what, the last journal about PMD was pretty fun to go through so here's another thing! Also I am dead inside lol
Is there something in particular you liked/disliked about the PMD games? What would you change about them? If you had to write a PMD story what would it be like?
You don't have to answer all of those but just some food for thought! I'll try and reply to as many comments as I can aaa

I kinda wished there was some kind of coustomization and chances to more connect with the protag. I want to become more invested overall so I can horribly cry at the end! Make me feel Mystery dungeon! Though the main thing I loved about PMD is that it focuses on the pokemon, makes it a bit more timeless, interesting and oddly makes me more invested. PMD is the reason I demand that there be a Digimon game without the pesky kids. It could be glorious!

Yeah that was just weird, it wasn't needed in the game.

I had a morbid idea of the main character being dead in the human world.
....i should see a therapist

i dunno if that's an idea that anyone's used. closest i've seen are short comics with the coma theory.

I was thinking of writing a story where the human character was actually in a hospital bed, dying - and was given the chance to come to the Pokemon world to help restore it from some kind of evil that was turning whole areas of the world into lifeless zones, and a small group of resistance Pokemon were trying to stem the tide of darkness washing over their world. The human in this case would be given essentially an "extra life" to live as a Pokemon...but it raised the very awkward question of what would happen as soon as this human returned to their world after their quest was over.
I don't think the idea is worryingly morbid that they died in the human world - after all, many cultures believe in reincarnation, and maybe in such a story, whoever or whatever called the human to the Pokemon world couldn't summon a living human, since their physical life force would resist such a call. The main question would be, how will the human being dead in their original world impact the story?

one of th ajor thing i like about the mystery dungeon franchise is the story... even the more... lackluster Gates to Infinity had its moments and the ending to Super Mystery Dungeon...(well the end of the first part of the game) was a twist that hasn't actually been done before... whihc is good or a franchise about twists... we've kinda already done the "bad guy is actually the good guy...and the good guy is working for the real badguy" trope before... and the one in gates really nailed that home to me... maybe we could branch in to new twists? like what if YOU'RE the bad guy this whole time?
The character's all play their part greatly! even goofy ass Super partner had some deep role in the game and i like that... the games ususally focus on good characters than jsut looking great
Sadly there are in fact some things im not a fan of... and its more a gripe with hte newer 2 games... the music isnt as memorable you know? I will constantly be humming the classic songs form Rescue Team and Exploreres... Hell my one alarm tone is the final dungeon form Rescue Team Sky Pillar... But there arent alotta new catchy songs to listen to... in fact the game seems to focus on HEY we're using 3d graphics now... whihc in my opinion makes the game feel slower to me... plus not being able to freely visit places to grind or whatnot does... it restricts things...
as for what i'd like t osee... i think i explained that alreayd but why not some new kinds of twists like "you're the bad guy not knowing their the bad guy and defy fate by beig the savior" or... why not like... how about at romance plot... yeah we had rampardos' affection for cinccino in gates but like why not somethign between partners? espeon and umbreon are brother/sister but a lovers path would be nice ^^
as for if i wrote one... im actally writting one presently... but ive been so bloody busyu lately... especialyl wiht the holidays comign up i havent been able to write more... and it suuuuuuuuucks i wanna write more dammit
....um... sorry for the long comment i um....liek writting...but its also like 130am here and im kinda getting...drowzee

I've always loved how deep and intricate all the PMD games are. Certainly some of the more story heavy parts of Pokémon, and they make things really interesting and fun through the eyes of a Pokémon. I feel like that things like your own character that represents ye has more involvement and emotion, sorta like in PMD, not so much as in other games, but like the signs of big emotions
with like gratitude from the player who in RRT says "I am blessed to have met you" to your partner. Character development like that would just be amazing. Other than that My own stories would be much more involving of the player and give them different decisions and choices that can help you for better or for worse!
Credit to one of my friends for this idea, he is my friend Justin or known as GrandmasterOshawott here
he talks about fire emblem mechanics being added into the mix, and making things more interesting like a partner betrayal, that can make the player feel bettered and all

the construction of the society and settlements in the games are really interesting for worldbuilding and it reinforces that you don't really need to create a story where you go out to randomly generated dungeons for your PMD story
the mystery dungeon aspect of the gameplay is part of the appeal but constructing a bond between characters is a big part of it too
the stories in PMD usually are somewhat cheesy in the good sense bc it invests you into the characters and what you do
but PMD as a whole can be an excellent worldbuilding/town exercise
