Description
Step by step progress of raising Poe Pho Ming, one of the newest character from mess studio.THE illustration was done over the course of a nite, using .5 mechanical pencil on paper, scanned in grayscale, touched up and colored in using photoshop cs and painter8 with wacom intuos.
process on drawing is whole another game in completely different ballpark, so we wont even go there with this walk through.
what demonstrated here in these totem pole of screen captures are simply some simple painting techniques- hoonstyle (
mainly, it should suggest you that... in order to produce a quality image, it takes many steps and each steps must be executed deliverately, and precisely. many artists tend to drift away daydreaming as you move your pens and brushes across the canvas. keep in mind tho, if you plan out what you wanna accomplish at the end of the process, and follow your initial concept, anyone can create quality, tasty art.
there are 2 distinctive approach i usually take when i work on art.
one begins with line art. Lines initiate everything on the canvas, dominate the whole process. on the other hand, there is a way you approach with volume, and color. This particular piece, "Intergalactic beat session" falls under type A, Line art is set from the begining process, and color work goes around the line art.
cellshading is one of many mathod of art that exploits this notion of coloring.
Best way to preserve the line though out the process of coloring is having the line art in separate layer, and paint Under the line, instead of over. if you have scanned in paper, (which line art layer will have both Black line and White surface) then "multiply" layer attribute is your best friend.
if it was volume oriented approach, like typical "painting," i'd only use one layer or maybe a few extra normal layers, but when it comes to line art oriented, i rely heavily on layer works. i suppose some experiements with layer settings and different brush works should be done by yourself, and develop your own style with those techniques.
In these screenshots, i noted layer attributes, and opacity percentage. that should give you an idea and you can possibly mimic that on your own way.
somple people wonder why their art isnt as complete and well done as other artists' work. the answer is simple. you havent done all the work others have done. you can make some clever sketch with afew strokes and that can be your style, but if you do wanna make something complete, and advanced work as some of those industry professionals, you will have to spend your time and apply multiple techniques to a canvas. now you know this intergalactic beat session wasnt done with blink of an eye.
when its just you and your canvas, be patient, and enjoy every little steps.
if you learn to enjoy applying every little details, anyone can make nice technically advanced piece.
hope this walk though will do something nice for your artistic endeavor.
hey, why dont you send me a little note if you ever do something based on this tutorial? id be more than happy to see your work, and i will give you my honest opinion. that will make a nice perfect circle.
thanks everyone for enjoying my work. those who commented and added me to your friends list, i owe you a sushi and sake. one of these days we will hook up and enjoy nice art discussion over some unagi!

Kudos for doing this. I haven't really seen a tutorial like this posted before. Very good CGing, and your drawing style is equally great. I have never been one to CG, because on everything I do I like to teach myself, and it just doesn't seem to be coming out good. So, I pretty much stick to the sketching. I would like to learn, as those around me tell me it would enhance the pictures so very much. I can't seem to find the time or skill to do so. And I seem to have a habit of smudging my pictures. This should help. Also, Mechanical pencil is the only way to go.
All around great job Bro.

taht's very interesting to see how you progress in your art.............The final result could sometimes appear rather simplein its composition but we really see here that's there's a real work on each details and it makes us see the final in another way.....I LOVE

I like this method of painting on a seperate layer and keeping the lines by themselves. If you make a mistake no problem. I use photoshop alot and digitally ink my sketches or line art. Great Job!!!

That looks great! I like how you colored it. I'm waiting to get a tablet. The laser mouse I'm using is working fine, I'm used to it but it gets a little annoying when later on the batteries dies out while in the middle of CGing. =/
