Description
M E S S S expressive series 1.most of my artistic time is all spent on comic related,or web related works, so i can hardly put good enough time and effort into a single piece... especially color work.
but i compelled to do a color painting today.
only 4 hours, but that was fun, yet very luxurious 4 hours.
with Tshirt design concept in mind, i started messs expressive series, and the keyword of this series is once again "music."
-----------------------------
PSCS and bit of painter8 ( i havent opened painter8 for a few months now)
4 hours NO references
:EDIT: additional thoughts on this piece:
the body language certainly is there, but i spent most amount of time on facial expression. i cant really tell anymore, but the intention was a smile coming from confidence and excitement. in my opinion, stylized face-drawing, espeically in ANIME is very easy to execute, cuz most of the angles and expressions can be formulated. but its been many years, when i draw something, i tend to stire away from traditional anime look, rather trying to convey more realistic facial features. this one is not an exception. (arguably so.) its not that i value less, nor disrespect anime artist. i just find human face, girls face, most fascinating and beautiful. i feel that i still have long way to go, really defining perfect beauty in facial features in my art.
another thing i wanna mention is the color scheme. recently with some artists friends and i got to discuss color scheme and so called "color sense."
i dont know if i have such thing, but one thing im certain, is there is no such thing as WRONG color scheme. there are millions of colors, and they are there to be used. many art schools teach students to avoid certain color palettes or certain color combinations, but i say that is seriously wrong direction of teaching. COLOR SHOULD be as free as your imaginations. This picture has colorscheme i hardly ever use. strong yellow and very vivid GREEN. not my choice of usual color, but i like how they play together here.
being creative comes in many forms in my opinion. choosing color is just one of many.
EDIT AGAIN:::
i agree with some of your comments.
CANT PUT YOUR FINGER ON IT, but there is something about the face... and i had to do something about it. just subtle touch ups, and i think its a little better now. it really wasnt just a feature. it was the relations of different parts of the face, and not looking at it for a while, and coming back to it sort of gave me better idea how i can remedy that ackwardness. though i think there wasnt anything wrong with previous version, this new update made her face look little more..... cute.. in typical standard. thanks for the input.
EDIT AGAIN2:::
okay. one more little fine tuning on her face.
i know its really the preferences of each individuals how they define beauty in face, and i didnt think the previous version was wrong. but the goal is to appeal to the mass, and i thought i should make some effort to make this character work for more people, including some picky barstards among us!
area i messed around again is the chin line and little more definitions on the lips. the touch up is subtle, and some people may not even be able to tell the difference, but her facial structure became little more feminine. the way many would prefer.
when an angle is from below looking up, the chin line tend to be less pointy and sharp. thats a fact. and when you have big grin in your face, your lips go upward, the opening of the closed lips going over the upper teeth and gums. but theoratical approach doesnt work all the time, and i think this is a good example.
its a little better i think. and those who found her face "aweful" might find this new version a little more "bearable."
THANKS for viewing, and sharing your thoughts as always!

Have you ever noticed the similarities in the facial structure of this model and the old women in Triplets of Bellville (albiet they are much older, but you know...)
Anyway, this has some fantastic appeal to it... great work.

Definitely very cool. Her face is quite good, it reminds me of a distant acquaintance. And certainly the colour scheme is intriguing and amazing, and works perfectly. Orange and green isn't typical, but you really have it work out. I love the detail and design for her costume.

Amazing vibrant colors.
The detail that you put into this piece is awesome. especially since you used no reference to create this.
Well done.

great colors
didn't really read all the description but the only thing I would change to make her even more beautiful is giving her at least a little bit of a jaw line..she has kind of a chubby chin/cheeks...
but then again you probably intended that
great work!
and again, the colors are amazing

I think it looks nice. Not the exact words to describe the feeling i got off it as you do, but still great. I'm seeing the edited-edited version, so i wouldnt know for sure if it's been perfect all along.

" many art schools teach students to avoid certain color palettes or certain color combinations, but i say that is seriously wrong direction of teaching. COLOR SHOULD be as free as your imaginations. This picture has colorscheme i hardly ever use. strong yellow and very vivid GREEN. "
THAT'S SO WRONG! I totally agree, that with millions of colours to use, why couldn't you use 'em creatively and INSPIRED BY THE ART-PIC you're doing?? For example, in this pic the yellow+vivid green works out so cool! Great!

She is simply beautiful! She makes me want to ask her what she's so happy about...what she's thinking. Your coloring is simply amazing. Love it! I love color schemes, and sadly don't do enough of them myself. You are one of those artists with natural, raw talent that no art class can give to you.

this is awesome awesome awesome.
i think i get what the critics are saying...but i still think this is a great piece of art. the body is beautiful, and i love the color combination. i totally agree about the color theory. i absolutely love dressing in so-called clashing colors that most people would deem "tacky". but i think they just dont think out of the box.

Ace detail in this piece, although the face doesnt look right to me. Not enough cheek structure, and the lips look fake or too heavy. But apart from that, awesome job as usual.

i dunno if someone already said this , but your "color sense" has a name.it's called Color Theory.it's what all artists have to take in order to graduate from an Art College.
you have an excelent sense of color theory. ~Nith47 also has a great sense of color theory (if you needed an example of what i meant).because of it , your work always comes off as aesthetically pleasing to the viewers eye.
