Description

We went to the Plains to shoot some IR photography with completely not suitable cameras (e.g. digital cameras with IR filter on their sensors) because we found out that those IR filters are not that effective at all. With suitable high ISO and long exposure we are able to shoot IR images with 700 or 720 nm filters. Of course we could—but this reluctant behavior was not tolerated. Though we had a shiny sunny day at first, as the filters got to the lenses the clouds gathered with cold stormy wind and rain and we had to stay in the cover of the cars for an hour or so. As it got a bit brighter I discovered that our parking place is just against this cross and the clouds and gloomy light made a call. "IR with plain digital cameras? Fear my Wrath!" "OK," I said, "I can shoot your without IR filter, too." and so I did.

Techie talk: Canon EOS 5D Mark IV with EF 24–105 f/4L IS USM without filter, ISO3200, f/7.1 s=10 sec, Manfrotto MT050 tripod, lens hood, lots of cold rain, patience, discipline…

This workshop was led by Sándor Vadász from VDS Camera Manufactory, producer of wooden large format field cameras and fine nature photographer. Weather was led by God Himself (or Herself) creator of... Well, Creator.
