Ok this picture perspective is a little bit confusing.
I try it before with dogs, but all dogs I know get afraid and don't touch the surface... becaus they think the mirror on the ground was an hole in the ground. But Ruechen is to snoopy to get afraid

Antago has a very valid point. It would be impossible to take the picture IN the mirror from the cat's back. Clearly the cat closest to the viewer is the real one. Perspective, my dear Watson.

You might be interested in looking up something on the development in human children. I saw an experiment where they used different aged children with a piece of glass and their moms called them across it. It was to see when the development to realize there was something SOLID started to develop.
