As beautiful as it is that red sky is the achilles heel of digital sensors and I'm not lying when I tell you that I'm scared of them. They have amazing potentail, but are so hard to capture properly. The 24-105mm I was using here didn't exactly help either.all rights reserved. this may not be used or reproduced in any way.

Obviously this photograph is all about light. The light is extremely beautiful.
Tones are balanced quite adequately.
Though, I think the whole photograph is a little bit two dark.
Further I noticed that there do not exist much highlights and darks. The whole image seems to consist of midtones actually. That means that in my view the image lacks a bit contrast.
This might be caused by the large and empty space of foreground in this photo. Although the wave adds a little bit of movement and foreground there remains still a large empty area in the foreground.
In order to capture the entire power and wilderness of that place you could have made some steps towards the sea. Since we have appearingly only water as foreground you could have captured some more of it using also a slightly longer shutter speed. The moving water as highlights would be an attractive foreground at the same time.
By that you would have avoided the huge emtpy space at the right side of the image.
I don't think that this is a bad photo. This would just be a possibility to create a more dynamic image.

Seascape sunset photos are a dime a dozen it seems, but this is by far one of the most beautiful sunset photographs I've ever seen. It looks like something you'd see on a post card. What it lacks in originality, it makes up for it in sheer awe. Being a photographer myself, I know how hard it is to capture the wonderful colors of a perfect sunset, but you seem to have mastered it. I actually have nothing bad to say about it. I just wish I could have been there to see it.

You are right to point this out about deep reds and digital sensors - it's a bitch, it always looks orangie and nothing can be done about it. This is a serious problem and is not mentioned enough.
A deep and stunning image, I would have loved to be there....

Beautiful colors. I love the pinks, oranges, and reds in the sky.
It's really hard for me to say too much not knowing the camera's stats. A camera make and model number then at least we know what sensor you're referring to above (or is just all of them in general?).

Thats an incredible sky. How do you always seem to end up in the right place at the right time with all these amazing skies. Or does South Africa just have great sunsets pretty much every evening? It seems like we get a semi-decent sunset here maybe once a month and only a couple incredible ones a year.
