Description
Please view the image on my website for more information, similar images and more recent updates about my images and travels - [link]After outdriving and shooting a monster stormcell in the Tsaucheb valley all afternoon, the storm headed Southwards into the dune sea just a few km short of the Sossusvlei 4x2 parking lot and I headed into the cracked pans to get ready for sunset. The magical recipe of geographical circumstances at Sossus did what I knew it would and the sun dipped in below the cloud cover briefly illuminating the dunes in blood-red light and painting a partial rainbow in the storm. I've experienced a lot of amazing sunsets in my life, but the location of this was one was just too good to be true and I all I could utter was a few laughs of disbelief.

WOW! Nice! Was this in the last rainy season? Usually rain in the desert is rarely seen! Very well captured!

Yeah, so I heard! ^^ The dunes where quite wet most of the time because of the rain. In the north, close to Etosha was always about 500 - 600 mm of rainfall per year, but this year was, I think around 1300 mm of rain fall. So it's way uncommon. Where as the desert get rain once every 10 years, but this year there was lots!
Thank you, I'll check that sight out.

Wonderful light - and the pattern on the sand - makes me think that if viewed from above, it would reveal an ancient symbol or something mysterious . . .
great shot!

Our imagination will never conceive the wonders nature provides.
It's only thru her blessing we can capture that beauty.
You pleased her and were rewarded
