Description
Luke’s mind was racing.Did he just kill his master?
Luke knew he never killed him physically or personally, but he was the one to break that stick near 3 dragons. The dragons wouldn’t have ever known they were watching them. If he never broken that stick, the dragons would still be arguing, and he and his master wouldn’t be in such a predicament. Luke felt guilty for his master’s death.
The huge dragon’s booming voice was the only thing to snap Luke out of his trance.
“Where are you, human?” The dragon said in his most blood-curdling tone. “I know you’re still here. I can just smell the cowardice on you. You didn’t even have the nerve to help your friend kill me. Such a shame. Now he’s nothing more than a snack to me.”
Luke knew the dragon was toying with him, but he couldn’t control his emotions. Anger, guilt, regret, sadness, and despair just to name a few. Luke wanted to call out, and face the dragon in battle, but he knew he would die. Even if he could kill this evil dragon, there were still 2 more right behind him.
Luke’s only option would be to run. The dragons would surely chase after him, but at least he will have a slim chance of living. Luke looked about, and saw a near-clear path in the woods. Luke didn’t look back, and ran.
Kelrith could feel the other human writhing in his belly. He would be dead in half an hour. However, that doesn’t concern him at the moment. What he is focused on is that other pesky human rat that was with the valiant one he ate.
Kelrith was already upset with Apolis only leaving a note saying that he was terrorizing a human village and didn’t invite them, then was furious with the knowledge of Mark’s disappearance. His anger had set him over the edge when he was aware that human’s had invaded on his territory!
Kelrith wanted nothing more than the destruction of these two humans now, and as luck would have it, the other human showed himself behind some trees, but was running away from them. Taking to the skies wouldn’t be a feasible option, as the woods would be too dense to see him, so he would have to track him on foot.
Following the pesky human wouldn’t be a problem if he could fly, but the woods were both too thick for him to see from above, and too dense for him to navigate effortlessly like the human could. Kelrith was, for lack of better word, too big to chase after the human. He had one more option though, and that came with the thought of a barbecued human…
Luke was both elated and angry at the same time. He shouldn’t run away. Especially not after breaking that stick and with the death of his master. He shouldn’t be so much of a coward. He should stay and fight, but he just didn’t want to die! Luke knew that even his master wouldn’t be so fool-hardy as to fight 3 dragons at once, but he did it anyways, and look at where that got him. His master was now dead, in the belly of a dragon.
In a place he doesn’t belong.
Luke was on the verge of tears. Sure, he is 18 and should be strong even in the face of death, but neither Luke nor William have ever seen anything this scary before.
Luke had begun to slow down his pace, due to him being tired, and hearing fainter and fainter steps. The dragon had stopped completely. Luke turned around, and regretted his decision immediately. All he could see was the dragon taking a huge breath, and then a fireball ready to incinerate him.
Luke ran once more with a renewed vigor, and a motivation to live. The dragon couldn’t reach him with claws, so the dragon decided to use fire.
Luke kept running, and was only speeding up with the sensation of heat traveling too close for comfort for him. Luckily, Luke was running towards a ledge with a pond at the bottom. Although jumping isn’t the best solution to survival, he didn’t have much of a choice with a fire behind him.
Luke took his chances, and jumped, praying to the gods for life…
Kelrith looked at the rest of the charred forest. He stood high and proud in victory. The master had been vanquished, and the student was burnt to a crisp. Nothing more made him prouder than putting filthy humans in their place. All of those cretins felt entitled to power, to glory. Kelrith knew that this was wrong. Humans are inferior to dragons, and he must enforce that.
The other two dragons cheered Kelrith on. They doubted that Kelrith could kill the coward human, but there he was! A burnt, charred pile of ash that is now just sitting on the ground!
“That’s two more tallies you can put up on the wall!” The first dragon said.
“Isn’t it technically one because the other wasn’t eaten?” Said the other.
“He deserves two tallies!”
“He only got one!”
The arguing continued, until Kelrith intervened.
“Everyone, everyone, calm down. We can both agree that I am the most power dragon in the land!” Kelrith said while showing off his strength and physique. The other two dragons cheered Kelrith on, fueling his already large ego and pride. Kelrith was on top of the moon now. Nothing could make him any happier.
Luke hit the water finally, but painfully. Inside and outside, Luke just felt like crap. His master died, and even he almost did too if it wasn’t for this huge lake. Luke managed to get himself up and out of the lake very sluggishly, and by this time, it was almost dark. With the weight of depression eating at him, Luke just wanted a place to safely sleep the night off.
After a bit of walking, Luke found a small cavern formed from a rock. Luke curled by the entrance with whatever he had to keep warm, and fell asleep from exhaustion.
