Description
I hated being the new kid, but I knew it was the best thing for my mother and I. My father was starting to harass us again since they had gotten a divoirce when I was twelve and I didn't want that for my mother. Unfortunately, the day that we moved, my boyfriend broke up with me becuase he found someone else and my father came to see us off which wasn't the best idea since my mother had a restraining order on him. When Steven, my boyfriend, broke up with me I had a hunch he was cheating on me for a while, but I never confronted him when I had the chance. My best friends, Kara and Tyler, told me that they would keep an eye on Steve and let me know if he cheated on that poor girl he cheated on me with. I just chuckled when they said that and smiled. "If that happens, give him a nice butt whooping from me will ya?"
"Of course we will Al," Tyler said before he gave me a hug goodbye. Kara had tears in her eyes as we said goodbye. I got into the truck we had rented and looked back as my mother drove off. I watched my best friends hug and cry. I noticed a quick kiss and I smiled. I had hoped they would get together soon. They were so in love and they didn't hide it very well from me.
Now it was my first day at my new high school and I was nervous. I was never a new kid so I really didn't know waht to expect. All I knew was that there were a lot of snops in Beverly Hills. I woke up and looked at my clock to see September first and it was six o' clock in the morning. I got up and searched for the bathroom in our new somewhat large house. My room was upstairs and I was still confused on where all of the rooms were.
I finally managed to find the full bathroom on the second floor and jumped in the shower. I quickly got out and dried off. I slipped into a strapless floral pink dress and put some prodcut into my lavendar colored curly hair. I managed to get my makeup on just before I had to leave for school. I slipped on my black flats, grabbed my blue backpack by one of it's shoulder straps and left the house after kissing my mother goodbye.
I walked to school since my mother and I didn't have our cars. I felt my phone vibrate and saw a text from Tyler and Kara. I smiled as I read it and finally got to my new high school. I walked inside and there were a lot of students mingling. I just about ran into a light blue tinted brown shaggy haired boy with their nose in an Egnlish book. "Sorry"
"It's okay," the boy said without looking up. He kept walking and another boy with hair that looked as if he was on fire, pulled the book down from his face.
"Blythe, I didn't know you enjoyed 'To Kill a Mocking Bird'. You're a science nerd, not an english one," the other boy said. I noticed he had baggy dark jeans on and a band t-shirt on. I smiled at his dirty and worn down black converse and wished I knew where mine were.
"Spike, I have to read it for class. Mr. Vamp is going to kill me if I don't finish this book," the first boy said. I saw her wore a science lover sweatshirt that was kripton green and his dark jeans were fit, but not skinny. He wore dark blue converse with the tardis on them. I geeked out to myself a little, knowing that someone at this school enjoys Dr. Who as much as I did.
"Well you could apologize to the girl you just about ran into," the kid named Spike said as he tapped his foot. The other kid named Blythe looked back at me and lowered his eyes.
"Sorry," was all he said and I noticed a metal pendant of Pluto around his neck. I fittled with the bottom of my dress and slightly brushed my hair out of my face.
"It's okay, it was my fault anyway. I wasn't watching where I was going," I said and gave a small smile. Spike gave one back and elbowed Blythe.
"Ow!" Blythe whined and rubbed his left side as he glared at Spike.
"Sorry about him. He's shy around other poeple." I chuckled a little and looked at my schedule.
"Do either of yoy know where locker 217 is?" I asked Spike nodded and walked over to me. Blythe left without a word. I watched him leave and turned back to Spike. He had a huge grin on his face. He had large square framed glasses on like he was a hipster and I noticed he had his pale hand out for me to shake.
"Well aren't you going to shake it?" he asked as he quickly looked down at his hand and back to my face.
"Uh...yeah...sorry..." I said and took his hand to shake it. "Now, can you take me to my locker?" I shifted my blue backpack as I spoke, because it was was becoming heavy and uncomfrotable on my shoulders and back.
"Of course. This way m'lady," Spike said and gestured down the long hallway we were standing in front of. I followed him down the hallway and up a flight of stairs.
We finally got to my new locker and he leaned on a locker next to mine as I tried to unlock my locker. "Hunter, get out of my way. You're blocking my locker," I heard a snotty voice say. I looked up at Spike and raised an eyebrow.
"My real name is Hunter. Blythe, best friend, calls me Spike," he said with a cheesy smile "Carla, can you wait? I'm helping someone," he spat back and the girl standing next to him now sighed and rolled her blue eyes annoyed. Her long bllonde hair was up in a pay and she had a slutty dress on. She looked down at me and gave me a dirty look.
"Who are you?" she spat. I stayed quiet and finally opened my locker. The girl put her hand on my tall blye locker and cleared her throat. "Are you going to answer me?"
"Carla, she doens't have to answer you. You have your stuff, so why don't you get to class already?" Spike asked. Carla just rolled her eyes and stormed off.
"Thanks Spike..." I said soflty. Nobody realized I was the new kid yet. That was good for me. I looked up at him and noticed he was scanning my school schedule.
"You have first and thrid period with Blythe and I, cool!" he exclaimed. I smiled a little relieved knowing that I would have two people I sort of knew in two of my classes. "Shall we get going to AP Science?"
"Uh...yeah. Today's the first day of school isn't it?"
"Nope, it's September seventeeth, so it's the seventeeth day of school if you count the weekends," he gave a grin and I smacked my head on my locker.
"Great, you must think I'm an idiot," I groaned.
"Not at all. I knew you were a transfer right away when you asked where your locker was. I'm not a snob like most students here. Blythe isn't either, he just doesn't like to interact with others unless I'm around," he said with a smile and held his hand out again. I took it and he helped me up, since I was kneeling on the ground setting my books down on the bottom of my locker.
"Thanks for your help Spike," I said and we headed to the first class of the day.
We got to class and I sat down next to Spike and Blythe nervously. The teacher walked in the room with a bright big smile on his face. I looked around the room and no one was very excited. "We have a new student today named Alyx Rim," he spoke and all I heard were squeals from the girls.
"I wonder if he's hot?" said one girl.
"I hope he's hot!" said another. I sighed and I heard another girl groan and grumble.
"Alyx, can you please come up here and tell us a little about yourself?" the teacher asked. I slowly got up and headed to the front of the classroom. I heard girls scoff and I heard the gril who groaned make a chuckle at the girls who were dissapointed I was female. I saw Spike give me an encouraging smile and I noticed Blythe actually looked up at me.
"H--Hi ummm...I'm Alyxandrea Rim, but ou can call me Alyx. My mom and I just moved here from Boston, Massachusetts," I said soflty. One girl snickered.
"You should have stayed in Boston," they said and tears filled my eyes. The girl who laughed at hte other girls stood up and cleared her thoat. "Awe, little Riley is standing up for Ms. History Relic."
"Michelle, shut up," was all she said. The teacher pushed me back to my seat gently and cleared his throat.
"Girls, can you both quiet down. I would like to start class," he said. I sat down between the boys again and shoved my face into a reading book of mine. I felt someone tap my shoulder and I looked up to see Riley, the girl who stood up for me. Her hair was boy short and black with hints of purple in it.
"You okay?" she asked and looked at Spike with a blush. I noticed she wore dark colored clothes as if she was goth, but she didn't seem as if she was a goth.
"Uh...yeah. Thanks," I said soflty and gave a small smile. She smiled back and sat down next to Spike. I started to read again and I saw a note slid to me from Blythe shyly. I opened it and smiled as I read it. 'Sorry for almost running you over and I'm sorry about Michelle and her posie. They can be cruel, but if you're smarter than her she'll back off a bit.' I wroke back and smiled as I slid it to him. It said 'Thanks for the tip. I'm a junior in a senior class. So I think I'm smarter than she is. xP'
I heard him snicker a bit and I felt a nudge from Spike. "I see you two are talking," he said.
"We're writing notes," I said with a slight smile.
"Yeah, he does that until he's comfrotable talking with someone. Just give him some time," I just nodded and sighed a little. I thought back to when Spike said it was the seventeenth of September and I just couldn't wrap my head around it. I could have sworn when I woke up this morning it was the first of September. The first day of school. I shrugged to myself and Blythe looked at me as if he'd just seen a ghost.
"What's wrong Blythe?" I asked and he quickly wrote down something. I read it as he wrote and it said 'I just heard your thoughts. Can you hear mine?' I just looked at him strange and I heard another voice in my head that sounded like Blythe's. "Apparently, I can hear your thoughts." I thought shocked. I remembered doing that with Kara and Tyler in school. We would have our own conversations with each other through mind and nobody knew it. I didn't think I'd find someone else I could do that with here.
"How long have you had it?" Blythe asked a loud. Spike heard him speak and was slightly shocked.
"I've been able to do that since I was around five I think. You?" I asked curiously.
"About the same age as you. Spike can hear me, but he can't talk back. He can move objects though," he said excited. Spike smiled and looked aorund to see if anyone was paying attention besides, Riley, Blythe and I. Nobody was, so he moved the stapler on the teachers desk to the other side.
"That's cool!" I said a little loud. Heads shot up and all eyes were on me. I became very red in the face and I went to hide my face into the book I was reading. They all went back to what they were doing and Riley looked at me with a small smile.
"I can make objects dissapear and make myself dissapear," she said and made her pencil invisable.
"So does everyone have "powers" like us?" I asked softly. They shook their heads and looked up at the teacher quick before saying anything.
"Most kids don't. These abilities make us different which is why we are outsiders here at this school," Spike said. I nodded in understanding and closed my book gently. I set it down softly and gave a small smile to my three new friends. The bell rang and everyone drarted out of class. I thought to myself 'Didn't class just start? That was weird.' I picked up my books and stood up waiting for the others to be ready to go.
"So how old are you Alyx?" Spike asked as we left the room. Riley hit him in the back of the head softly. "What was that for Riley?"
"You never ask a woman their age or weight Spike," she scolded. I snickered and looked to Blythe who was writing something on a whiteboard.
"He's figuring out equations for his space ship he's working on," Spike informed me as he rubbed hte back of his head.
I nodded in understanding and smiled. "That's cool. And Spike, to answer your question I'm seventeen. I'm a junior, I'm just really smart. One reason why I am in two of your classes."
Spike and Riley just blinked and said nothing. Blythe said something, but no one heard it. "What did you say Blythe?" Riley finally asked.
"I said 'Not a lot of people here are overly smart. Hence why Riley, nor Spike is speaking.'" Blythe repeaded without looking up from his board.
"Wait, so I'm the first student to be in senior classes when they're a junior?" I asked a little shocked.
"Yes. You are the first person ever to be this smart."
"Wow...that's a little surprising. Everyone at my old school were really smart. It wasn't unusual for sphomores to be in senior classes or anything like that."
"You went to a smarty pants school then in Boston," Spike said.
"You could say that Spike," I smiled and we were outside of a classroom that seemed to be Riley and Spike's class. "I guess I'll see you guys around!" I said with a wave and walked off realziing I wans't sure where I was going.
"What class do you have now Alyx?" Blythe asked. I kind of forgot he was walking next to me. I looked down at my schedule and saw 'Math' in the second period box.
"Math class with Mrs. Fox," I said with a sigh. I love science, but not math. Strange since they both correspond to each other for experiments and inventions.
"Oh, she's a good math teacher. You'll do well. I'll walk you there," Blythe looked up from his board with a small smile.
"You're more talkative," I giggled. He nodded and put his marker in his pocket.
"Yeah, I am now. We have a few things in common including our power. A lot people here are snobs and brats including my younger brother who's a sophomore," he said a little disguested.
"Do you not like your brother?" I asked curiously. He sighed and shook his head.
"No, I mean he's my brother, I have to like him. It's just, he gets away with everything and I end up getting yelled at for his messes. My parents even let him have his girlfriend of four months spend the night. She's a sweetheart and not a snob, but I'm just afraid that they're going to do something that they're both not ready for...." Blythe explained. He got deep and we had only just met.
"Oh...um...wow...I'm sorry Blythe. I'm not really sure what to say or do to help you...."
"It's okay. I'm sorry for dumping that on you. We're here by the way. I'll meet you here in fourty-five minutes. We can walk to our next class together. Kay?" Blythe smiled and walked to his class.
"Thanks Blythe," I thought with a smile and blushed a little. I walked into class and sat down in the far back corner. "Tyler! Kara! Guess what?" I thought hoping they would be able to hear me. I wans't sure if telepathy had distance range on it.
"Al! We miss you! What's up?" Tyler and Kara both answered. I smiled to myself and was happy they were able to hear me all the way in Boston.
"I made some new friends who have powers like us! But something weird is going on with me..." I thought.
"Weird how Aly?" Kara asked.
"That's cool that you met more people who are unique like us!" Tyler thought excitedly.
"It's as if time is moving forward and fast," I thought confused. "Is that normal?"
"Alyx, a lot of poeple feel like time flies by when you're having fun," Kara said.
"Yeah! When I'm playing chess time flies by for me!" Tyler said. Kara and I laughed in our heads and I looked up at the clock. I noticed a half an hour had already passed and I blinked to make sure it wasn't a dream.
"Sorry guys, but I have to go. I'll talk to you later. Love and miss you both!" I said before quiclky writing down the problems on the board. I did them in about five minutes and wlaked up to the teacher handing them in.
"Thank you Alyx. You are free to go," Mrs. Fox said with a smile.
"Oh...okay. Thank you," I said and walked over to my desk. I grabbed my books and waited outside of the room for Bkythe to return.
