Ancient witch queenElemental before
The fragile raising of man
She is a doorway
Midnight’s quickened will
She works from afar
A sentient portal within
Primeval mistress of ghosts
And the dreaming liminal herbs
Her art taught in shadows
And threshold rites
Propitiated with flesh
Where three roads meet
The triple formed watcher
At the gates of birth and death
Apportioned earth, depths and sky
With chthonic countenance
Of serpent twined oak
And baying hounds
At the crossroads
Of time and space
Honoured amongst
All the deathless gods

sublime, the image transfixes me, I mean one is just drawn into the shadow like looking upon an obsidian mirror. A powerful image that works upon something in the unconscious.!

A most excellent expression of the oh so ancient feminine divine Trinity. Beautiful shading effects that create an exquisite energy radiating form both the objects of sacred light, as well as the places of eternal black in the piece. Love the feeling that the Regal High Priestess as portal appears to be of a nature of a secret passage the way she remains mostly hidden and hooded in all three aspects of her being here. No hints at all should you come to be before the desirous, dangerous door is you should chose portal number one, two, or three when the elemental Enchantress harkens thee.

Thanks, I'm happy you like the poem - I'm always unsure about putting poetry up as I'm stronger at painting, but thought it was better than just writing a description of attributes, and want to keep trying poetry until I get good at it

Awesome. The best picture of Hecate I've ever seen.
Hecate is a scary goddess but to me she is the mother of comforting darkness.
I see her in my dreams, and she helps me to find my path.

Thanks, this was my first oil painting and I actually found the paint quite hard to use, so hopefully my skill with it will develop with time. I did find the paint gave a rich tonal depth and lent itself to a loose textured effect...

I won't use oil... it's just too difficult to use and it takes too long to dry. More power to the folks who do use, it, though!
