Description
The most difficult part of Orthodoxy for me is all the fasting. I have a hard time because anyone who knows me can tell you, I REALLY love food.

But as we come to the fast of the dormition I've been thinking and praying a lot about fasting, and I think that the very fact of how much I find fasting difficult makes it even more important. Fasting reminds me that this life is about more than food, and that even when I can't eat the foods I really love, God is still faithful. It's also important because it reminds me that there are things more important than food, and forces me to come face to face with how much my life has often had food at the center so that I can reorient myself around Christ alone.

Fasting also gives me the chance to confront my passions, and by confronting them, subdue them.

Bottom line: I may not "like" fasting, but liking it isn't the point, the point is being transformed by it so that I become more of what I was created to be, an image bearer and glorifier of God.
