Description
It had been days on the road, and fighting and sealing these void rifts. Samuel was getting tired, not only that he was sore. every moment he was around something involving the void his skin crawled, ached, like it was trying to stretch around him. It was making him ragged, but he kept it all to himself, afraid if he let his state be known Quest would send him home. He couldn't have that. Samuel had signed up to help, to do something significant for once in his life. However, it was catching up to him. Every moment he was on the back of his Karat, Hendrix, following the group his eyes dropped more and more. Growing heavy. Maybe he could rest his eyes for just a moment... yeah that couldn't hurt...
He's not sure how long he was asleep, but there was shouting. Above them, a huge void rift swirls and swims through the trees all mounts skid to a halt in the underbrush beneath their hooves and paws, sending Samuel lurching a bit in his saddle. the rift kept spiraling, forming cyclones and touching down, one right in front of him. Hendrix spooked reared and threw him from the saddle fully. Samuel quickly tried to right himself in the bushes to see the void form itself slowly. Feet, arms, torso and head. It was him. Fear bubbled up in the normally stoic bagbean, he falls back into the brush fumbling for his bow that had been dropped when he was thrown from his mount.
No matter how much the thorns prick his fingers or snag his shawl he can't seem to find it. He throws a glance back at the approaching shadow. Too close, he looks down again and sees his bow hidden between some toughly gnarled branches and quickly tries to grab it. He's slow.
Weight as the other him tackles him, sending them both barreling into the thorny bushes. Samuel grunt and plants a foot in the gut of his counterpart and delivers a kick, granting him just a moment to reverse the situation, rolling over and them both out of the brush. Gasping for air Samuel delivered a fist right into the shadow's face, but it's malleable. and doesn't seem to do too much damage as the void making it up just moves out of the way. the shadow laughs at him, mocking him. Samuel growls and tries to deliver another punch but this time it's his gut that gets kicked, knocking the wind out of him and causing him to sputter. His grip weakens and he feels himself being pushed.
He rolls a bit coming to a stop just before a small stream and the shadow straddles him, anger glowing in those dark eyes.
"What-.. are you trying to do?" Samuel chokes out trying to push the attacker off him, but he's so weak, somehow, everything hurt, like he was on fire.
"JOIN US AGAIN" said the shadow, hands coming to his neck and squeezing, Samuel cant' speak, gasping for air. "YOU WERE ONCE BORN OF US. YOU WILL RETURN" he could feel it now, the burning, the pull upward into the rift. He struggles but can't seem to get free, almost drifting away when-
TWANG.
An arrow hits the shadow, then another and another. It gasps in shock, tries to move before a final arrow peices the chest. It's form loosens, dripping void before it seems to melt all over Samuel. It's warm. It's almost soothing...
"Julian" he gasps, turning over to cough and sharply inhale. "You sa-.. you saved me." a hand extends downward and he takes it, getting up as void dripped off him.
"Are you alright?" the taller bagbean asked, starting to try and ruffle void from his hair. "Huh... your hair.. Samuel you're color is back." Julian exclaims, and he's right. As he wipes himself off Samuel can see the parts of him that had once been grey and devoid of all color and pattern were black. shiny. Fur. Like normal. He looks back at his tail and it's the same story.
Before Samuel can contemplate this, or reply Quest calls for them all and they are left running to try and catch up, with Julian's help he collects his bow and hops on Hendrix, calming him as they galloped back to the others, bag a little heavier from void essence.
