Description
An historic co-operative venture took place between the 9th and 10th of December 1978 when Rediffusion and ABC joined forces to produce the first telethon in the UK. Help A London Child was a televised version of Capital Radio's fundraiser (who helmed the radio side of the weekend increasing the historic nature of the broadcast). Presented by Rediffusion's Andrew Garner and Kenny Everett and by ABC's Michael Aspel and Bruce Forsyth the the telethon raid £1.1 million. Some snide remarks in the press said it was just. a huge publicity exercise by both Rediffusion and ABC to show off their new signings of Everett and Forsyth respectively. Forsyth denied it (possibly concerned over how "Big Night Out" was developing) but Everett confirmed it in an interview for an interview for Channel 4's Mavis Nicholson in 1992)
