Yes, Tom, he hears Mike. And yes, that kanji over his left eyebrow is ugly..but it isn't because the kanji itself looks bad, it just looks bad placed 'there'. I can easily imagine that anyone who honestly commented on it was killed, and everyone else just stays silent.
