Jessie walked into the riding hall, having been told by her father that Ellie had taken Smoke out of his stable to lunge him in the Indoor arena. She'd been eager to see how the stallion worked since his arrival a fair few weeks prior. She'd begged her father to take her back to the Rikr facility to purchase a horse for herself with no luck, as Harrison had so much to do around the yard. She'd been pouting over the photos of the horses they'd looked at when she went with Ellie to have a look at the auction horses that needed rehoming.

Jessie snapped back to reality just in time to see Smoke transition from a walk into a floaty trot. He wasn't particularly great at trotting, but then again he was a young horse and had no training.
She listened to the sound of the hooves amongst the sand of the arena and watched Ellie swing the end of the lunge line behind the tobiano stallion and her eyes lit up.

Smoke threw his head up a little, feeling the pressure on his poll from the lunge line that was looped from one side of his bridle, to the other. He listened to the commands coming from the red-headed woman that stood a little way away from him. And she gave a clicking noise at him. He understood, from the last few weeks training, meant to speed up. So he flicked his tail and transitioned smoothly into a canter, going around in circles with ease. He could tell that this was a caring home, just like the Rikr centre.

Smoke's tail flicked behind him and he gave a slight buck, only to hear "Ahh ah, calm" come from Ellie.
Ellie brought the stallion back to a walk, and then she changed the lunge line from the left side of his face to the right, so he would have his right shoulder facing her. "Good boy." She cooed at him, patting his neck.
"Walk on Smoke." She called out, flicking the end of the lunge line to get him to speed up. She wanted him to repeat the same excercise of transitions.

"He's doing really well Jessie. I know you want your own, but it's going to take time." Ellie called over her shoulder.
Jessie hadn't realised Ellie knew she was there, but she laughed softly. "I know.. I just wish we could've picked one up at the centre the day we went.." She let out an audible sigh and then went to speak, pausing with hesitation. "Have you heard back about any of the auction horses yet?" She asked.

Ellie rolled her eyes, bringing Smoke back up into a canter again. "No, I haven't. They said they'll contact me at the end of the month with which horse we are suited to." She told the teenage girl. "Be patient Jessie."
Ellie's voice came out a bit louder than she intended and Smoke tossed his head, but he didn't spook. "Good boy." Ellie cooed again.

"Why don't you take Jack out or practice for the spring show?" She asked.
"Okay... I will. See you later!" Jessie answered, hopping down from the seating at one side of the arena and leaving to go get her arabian.

This was actually real fun to draw. I debated on using one of the planet zoo screenshots of my stables that VeiledHemlock made for me, but I made part of my stables arena in sketch up and thought it would be a nice change.
