Big thanks to all the peeps on deviantart who advised me!I'm finally starting to get better at understanding what exactly what I was doing wrong. I know this painting is realllllyyyy incomplete and rough but hey I learnt a lot. The forum is really helpful.
Now please excuse this rough, incomplete, ( Terrible ) thing.

Oh wow, that's definitely looking much better compared to some of your previous pieces. And don't undersell your drawings, this is anything but a "rough, incomplete, terrible thing"!
The dark areas by his neck and throughout the folds of his clothes, as well as the very nice use of depth of field really help make this painting look 3D and believable.
