Since I just did Supergirl and I already redid Debbie Turnbull a year ago, figured I might as well redraw the last pic from my original MerMay:

Which is easily the worst of those three and the most in need of a remake. Like, the other two I thought were good when they were new and later on became harder to look at, but this one I honestly thought kinda sucked even back then. I thought it was a huge mistake trying to use the crayon tool for shading, the Mario 3 HUD was really unnecessary since the background got the point across that this is in the world of Mario 3 just fine, and the Cheep-Cheep design was horribly-implemented. It doesn't even look like part of her, it looks like she's being eaten by Big Bertha, which I remember somebody in the comments even pointing out and I said it was intentional because it would've been funny, and to throw a bone to the vore fans if they wanna see it that way, but now it's time to be honest, I was sucking down copium on that one. I didn't want to admit that something of mine posted that recently was not only a piece of crap, but was a piece of crap right from the initial sketch, it just wasn't a good idea. The idea I was going for was to use the Cheep-Cheep lips as an equivalent to whatever those fins around Ariel's waist are supposed to be, like as kind of a homage. But honestly, those look stupid on the Disney mermaids too! They make the tail look like a garment and not part of their body, which was to make them easier to animate since gradients were hard to do on cels, but it's not 1989 anymore and I'm not painting these on cels, there's no reason to make the design look worse as an homage to a technical limitation. That's why since then if I wanna do a Disney-style mermaid I have the hip fins not join in the center as a compromise, an area between them will still be exposed where the skin color can merge into the scale color. And even if not for the lips, keeping the color scheme normal was also a huge mistake since red and orange just don't match the rest of her which keeps her normal color scheme. Either her shell top should have been red and orange to match, or the tail's colors should have been personalized like pretty much all the other powerups in Mario games do. The pose sucked too, since there wasn't even one. Sure there's not much to the pose I drew this time, and it's not like I haven't drawn that exact pose a bunch of times, but at least now she doesn't look like an action figure in its packaging. Every way to sunday I always regretted posting that pic instead of just scrapping it and redrawing it from scratch. So now I have.
