Name: Sabyx (pronounced Sab-ix)

Number: 104

Element: Luck

Age: 52 (physically and mentally closer to early-mid 20s, Viera live a long time)

Height: 6'5" (6’10” in heels)

Proof of Existence: The Choleric Catastophe

Brief Description of Element Use: can manipulate luck to cause unpredictable effects both directly to opponents (dropping weapons, cramping, tripping) and objects (falling, breaking, or swinging), and to opponents and objects in an area around her--can currently only manipulate bad luck

Weapon: Zweihänder

Homeworld: Radiant Garden (Eruyt Village)

Personality: Even in the best of times, Sabyx is prickly.  Bitter from a lifetime of being put down and avoided, she has a tendency to be defensive and dismissive around new people.  She has a hair-trigger temper, particularly where her past and self-worth is concerned, and she has a bad habit of snapping over petty slights.  That said, deep down there is certainly a woman who yearns for acceptance, and anyone willing to give her some patience may find she has a less harsh side.  For example, though she often bites back at initial friendliness, persistent friendliness often makes her extremely flustered. Note: her tendency toward emotional instability is something she tries to control, as her element can and does go haywire if she isn’t relatively calm and collected...but often the operative word is ‘tries’ (she’s reeeeally bad at it).

Notes:

  • Her element has three basic uses:

    • Calamity (area of effect): her most common use, she can project her bad luck away from her in a 20 foot radius area.  Anything or anyone (except Sabyx) that enters the area has a chance of having something unlucky happen to them (see the effects from Jinx and Sabotage below).  It is not consistent, probably something like a 50% chance of something happening, and anyone being cautious can avoid some effects entirely--she mainly uses this in the hopes that it’ll make openings and advantages in battle.  She cannot control which effect happens or when. Given that it’s a weak effect, she can maintain this for up to 10 minutes, but only providing she remains calm and concentrates to some degree--if she is very damaged, or if she is compromised emotionally, the effect will end or even backfire, and she may begin suffering bad luck effects herself.

    • Jinx (single living target): by putting a hand on a living target, either human/humanoid or Heartless (or animal, I guess, but I can’t imagine a reason), she can focus concentrated bad luck onto it.  This can manifest in three ways--they could drop what they’re holding, trip, or start cramping somewhere. She has to initiate this with physical contact, and she has to remain focused to maintain the jinx, but the max amount of time it can last is 3 minutes.  She cannot select which effect happens at any given time, but they can all happen more than once while she’s concentrating.

    • Sabotage (single object): by pointing at an object within 30 feet, she can force something unlucky to happen to it.  This can manifest in three ways--it could fall over/down, start swinging (or slide, if it’s not hanging), or break entirely.  Whatever happens will happen immediately, and she cannot select which effect happens.

  • UPDATE: Now, when concentrating very hard, Sab can narrow the outcome of her bad luck--essentially, she can choose to eliminate one of the three usual options for her element uses so that it becomes a 50/50 shot of being the other two options.  She can't be under attack while this happens, as it's too hard to focus otherwise, so this is more useful either out of combat or while teaming up with someone else.

  • Her element does activate outside of combat, usually in ambient sort of unlucky situations.  When she’s in control of herself, this happens a lot less, but if her demeanor slips, many of the same effects happen to both her and others around her--things falling, people dropping things, objects move unluckily, cramps happen, tripping over feet, etc.  The amount it happens is usually relative to how much composure she’s lost. Mostly it’s annoying and causes a lot of cups to need replacing.

  • Those paying attention may notice that things affected by her element have sparks of crackly, black, electricity around them.  It’s small, and if one isn’t paying attention they might miss it, but it happens whenever it activates. It is much more noticeable when she’s using Jinx or Sabotage to directly affect things.

  • She’s extremely focused in battle, both because she has to be to keep her element from going out of control and because she’s eager to prove that she is competent outside of how her element affects her.  That said, she may not be the best team player just yet, and not just because her Calamity effect works on allies too. Girl’s not used to teamwork.

  • It is SO easy to challenge her to things.  She is way too eager to prove herself. Don’t think anyone will eat that disgusting thing?  WRONG, WEAK, GIMME THAT.

  • Though she’s grumpy and snaps at people a lot, she’s not specifically mean.  She can be tactless and sarcastic and biting, but she often feels extremely guilty if she actually upsets someone and will make attempts to apologize.  ...No promises on how good the apologies are, though, she’s actually sort of awkward when she has to be heartfelt.

  • Sab was originally a Viera named Bysa from Eruyt Village.  She was born unable to hear the voice of the Wood, and it seemed from that point on she was cursed to have bad luck.  Her Wood Warder training never seemed to go well, her patrols went even worse, she was constantly causing trouble without meaning to, and nothing ever seemed to go right for her.  At first her fellow Viera were eager to help her hear the Wood and possibly overcome her apparent jinx, but eventually they grew to see her as something of an ill omen.  She had never enjoyed being treated differently.  Sick of being either being coddled or ostracized, she finally left the village and the Wood entirely.  She traveled to other cities in Radiant Garden and tried to make a living, to prove that she could succeed in the outside world instead, but her bad luck only seemed to worsen.  When in her travels she caught wind that people killed by the ever-growing Heartless were sometimes seemingly reborn as powerful beings, she hunted down the darkness herself.  Though she'd hoped the Heartless would change her, she emerged as a Nobody whose influence over luck was even stronger...which meant her luck was even worse.  Thankfully, she had her first stroke of fortune in the form of Xelege, whose invitation to the Organization included a chance to gain control over her element at long last.

  • Her hair is actually white!  She dyes it this color.
