Description
Name: Mixodri
Proof of Existence: The Ivory Chime
Age: 22
Height: 4’6”
Element: Bones
Weapon: Scythe
Homeworld: Spirit Realm (Spirited Away)
Rank: Vega I
Personality: Mix is usually cautious at first blush, curious but easily put off or made uncomfortable by things (loud people, obnoxious noise, crowds, etc.). She is genuinely interested in the world and in finding her place in it, but she prefers to investigate in her own way and at her own speed while she acclimates to this new existence. She tries to be open minded to meeting new people, and she is invested in learning more about them through many, many questions, but she often has a hard time overcoming bad first impressions (this in spite of the fact that she professes to hate judgement at first sight--she was burned badly by it in the past). Though her thoughts and nonfeelings run deep, her expressions change rather subtly (eyebrows and ear movement mainly, though some circumstances elicit more), and her speech rarely reaches emotional highs. This can cause weirdness--she is learning that she likes to be teasing and friendly, maybe even a little sassy with people she likes and is friendly with, but with those who know her less, her low-key tone runs the risk of making her seem a liiiittle unclear in her intentions. Those that get past that will find in her a very solid friend, and one who tries very hard to be there when needed (particularly if you're sad).
Brief Description of Element Use: Mixodri is able to manipulate bones any sort of vertebrate creature, providing that those bones are no longer occupied by body mass or a “spirit” (so she can’t manipulate an animate skeleton in Nightmare Before Christmas, for instance, and she can’t manipulate a fresh corpse or a living creature). UPDATE: She is beginning to be able to affect bones that are still in use--though she can't move them around easily, she can force some of them to halt movement with enough concentration. For every day use, she carries a bag of bones with her, usually tied to her scythe, but she can also pull bones from the ground around her as long as they aren’t too far underground and they aren’t locked away behind a harder surface than dirt or some rocks. Her basic abilities include being able to move collections of bones around in the air (useful for swiping attacks or for use as projectiles), but she can also assemble bones into a ‘construct’ shaped like a living being. It takes more concentration to do this, and she has to use both hands to puppet the construct, but she can make it out of whatever bones she has available at a given time and it will stay together with relative security so long as she’s not distracted and the construct doesn’t take too many heavy hits. She likes to climb on top of particularly large constructs and puppet them to attack for her.
Notes:
As a Somebody, Mixodri was a bakeneko, a kind of cat yokai that is born when a cat grows old and learns to walk on its hind legs. The change came with a number of powers, most notably human speech and shapeshifting in Mix’s case. As such, she’s not unaccustomed to being a human--she’s just unaccustomed to being a unique human and not a copy of someone else (as well as being incapable of changing back).
Mixodri’s owner when she was a regular cat was a kind, lonely craftswoman who carved netsuke. She treated her cat like her furry child and would often explain her crafting process to Mix, and once Mix was able to shapeshift into a human she took up the craft herself. She currently spends her free time carving bones into small animals and flowers and other objects.
Since she used to be a cat, she still behaves like one in many ways, and she inherited some traits from her past life. She has very good balance and prefers to be in high places (either on top of furniture, on top of walls, or on top of tall people if allowed), she can be easily startled if caught off guard and will quickly hide if she feels threatened, she likes napping a lot and will often find cozy piles of clothing in which to curl up, she is quite flexible and capable of being extremely quiet when she wants to be (she just doesn’t usually want to be, hence all the bells--most of the time she jingles CONSTANTLY), and she will often try to get people’s attention by either papping at their arms or legs or by repeating their name with increasing volume. She also maintains her cat-like eyes (which includes seeing well in the dark and having a reflective quality).
She didn’t inherit everything though--she is still getting used to having eyes that dry out more quickly so she can’t stare at things unblinking for quite as long, and she has had to get used to bathing and dressing like a human. She’s chosen to wear whatever was comfy and sort of cute to her eyes. She does not understand fashion.
She is quite afraid of dogs. She will often skitter away from them and find a high hiding place when they show interest in her (which is mysteriously often, incidentally).
She loooves physical contact from people she likes, it's one of her favorite and most calming things. ...It's probably not a great idea to initiate that if you're not on good terms, though.
Can she smile?? It's a mystery. (And the answer to the mystery is yes, but very rarely--mostly she just squints happily and makes breathy laughs.)
Though she is new to combat in general (she wasn’t much of a fighter in the past), she has taken very well to her element. Arguably this is because bakeneko and nekomata are rumored to be able to raise the dead. In any case, she excels at manipulating bones to do her bidding, and she prefers to stay farther away in combat, safely in hiding or on higher ground so she can do her work in peace. This is why constructs are her preferred element use--they are good for attacking in her stead and they are excellent perches. Arguably, though, this is a crutch.
She is definitely weaker with her scythe. She can use it passably well and its very long reach is certainly a benefit, but it synergizes much better with her non-construct skills, and she has yet to improve upon those. On her scythe skills too. It’s on her to-do list. Y’know. At some point.
She LEVELED UP!!
