As an Oni , Lum is capable of flight, elemental manipulation, invisibility, strength-through-rage, use of claws, fangs, and horns, and intimidation. However, like most Oni, Lum is rather headstrong and foolish. This doesn't mean she's a pushover though. Shippo spent some time in her kingdom, butting heads with Lum a few times, but the two actually managed to level with each other after a while. After the fight, Shippo, trying to be romantic, proposed that they start over. She took this as a proposal, which scared Shippo off, saying he would marry her when he became a king himself. Regardless, Lum searched for her 'Darling', eventually finding him in Traverse Town, putting an end to his reign as the 'Yokai King'. To his credit, Shippo kept his word and married her. Of course, he tried his hand at kingdom-building again, this time with an Oni Queen helping him. Lum's not as cunning as her husband, and has been swayed into helping him become king again, but she's far more physically durable than he is-Shippo might be powerful, but a punch to his face can knock him out cold-and can be pretty clever herself.

In terms of Lum's character, I took some cues from her feisty personality from the anime, and this trope I read about called Yamato Nadeshiko , basically the traditional concept of the ideal Japanase woman. Before you jump down my throat, hear me out. Yamato Nadeshiko's are domestic and submissive, but they aren't doormats. They can be determined and badass, even if it doesn't show in their usual behaviour. Examples include Tifa Lockhart or Hinata Hyuga. A Yamato Nadeshiko isn't a pushover, and when something threatens them, their goals, or the people they care about, they won't sit by and watch it happen. Lum goes along with Shippo's schemes, but reels him in when he gets his head up his ass.
