something lies in the middle of the road.
it has been there since late in the afternoon,
after a truck ran through the area,
the anxious engine screaming as it went.

a few passers by stopped for but a moment to make sense of the entity that had now claimed the road,
but curiosity has become a rarity in these times.
it vanishes as quickly as it is felt.
we are past getting to the bottom of things, or solving a mystery.
someone else will figure it out, and clean it up.
lethargy, routine and dispassion has dulled the minds of the city dwellers.

when all are gone,
and night's black robe dresses the concrete forest,
only then do the inquisitive city spirits reveal themselves.
they have kept their wits sharp and keen,
their hearts filled with wonder and inspiration.
they are drawn to the entity like a cat to a mouse.
to them, this mystery is a feast to be enjoyed and devoured.
