I've been toying with the idea of a fishbowl effect on an image for some time, and I've also pondered a Nike 6.0 poster I saw in the Nemo office last fall. This piece was born of the marriage of both concepts.

I only used for Photoshop for modifying my sketch and distorting it with spherize. The rest is all vector. Needless to say, it took a little while. I wound up using some old tools for the first time in over a year, such as the brush tool. It was thoroughly helpful for adding small and fairly organic details. In the end, I'm pretty satisfied but wish I had exaggerated the distortion even more... It seems too subtle to me.
