Description According to Mothra's Shobijin's translation of Mothra, Rodan and the second Godzilla's conversation in Ghidorah, the Three-Headed Monster, Godzilla only "hates humans because they hate him," suggesting that this new Godzilla never had any true malicious intent but was only reacting to constantly being attacked by humans. Rodan later agrees with Godzilla's statement. This fits with the second Godzilla's less aggressive initial attitude where it only attacked Japan when driven to shore by Anguirus's attack.

As time passes on the second Godzilla's attitude towards humans shifts and he becomes much more actively friendly and protective of them, fighting alongside humans against numerous monsters. In the film Son of Godzilla, Godzilla discovers an infant member of his species named Minilla, which he decides to raise as a son and train to take up his mantle. Godzilla's loyalty and love for Minilla eventually leads to him becoming a primarily heroic and sympathetic character. In the films of the 1970's, Godzilla is depicted as an actual superhero who arrives in Japan to fend off evil monsters from outer space such as Hedorah, Gigan and Mechagodzilla.
