Description Had I the heavens' embroidered cloths,
Enwrought with golden and silver light,
The blue and the dim and the dark cloths
Of night and light and the half-light,
I would spread the cloths under your feet:
But I, being poor, have only my dreams;
I have spread my dreams under your feet;
Tread softly because you tread on my dreams.
W.B. Yeats - He Wishes For The Cloths Of Heaven

for ~Lareth who has been a great inspiration, amazing friend, a superb critic and fantastic help.. Thank you dear for everything..

my entry for =seduced-by-the-sun "Fragile Dream" contest: [link]

Somehow I like to think that the world she lives is totally in ruins.. maybe I am going too in the way of "Equilibrium" but if you have seen the movie.. you have definitely heard the poem above and it all can have even larger meaning..

So dream about world where everything beautiful and emotional has been abandoned and you are forced not to feel anything - you are not only told not to have emotions but having them is reason to arrest you and even execute.. no feeling, no beauty, no art.. no poetry.. this is the world she lives.

But she.. she still feels and she still cares.. not about what will happen with her but what will happen with beauty of the world no longer exist.. it is now only an eternal rain.. eternal grey and dark clouds.. no sun, no light... this is the result of the destruction what mankind brought to himself.. but then.. she just founds one last white bloom.. a little flower what came from somewhere in this endless nightmare. And she just cannot leave it.. it is something she never believes is possible on this world.. it is her dream come true.. and when she has just been wandering around in her life until this point without purpose, then now.. she has one - she has something to live, to hold on - for those white blooms..

But if you have ever tried to rise a flower with rare beauty you know it is so fable... too much water and it can die.. too less water and it dries.. not enough that and you will have faded beauty.. too much of something else, and you end in ruins, again..

So.. she stays, sits besides her dream and tries to keep it alive as for her - that one flower in the middle of eternal wasteland.. it is a symbol that better tomorrow is possible.. it is a symbol that there is still hope.. that her dreams can come true...

Treat softly... because you treat on her dreams...

This piece goes to category - when you start it, finish it.. I started it when we had that kind of grey weather, rain pouring days and days.. and it just fit so much there.. but now, when I was finishing it yesterday - we have had a quite much snow already.. and it was snowing all day.. it was calm, white and peaceful, totally contrasts what I was feeling when I started it, so maybe this has some yelling difference in some part but still - I adore this.. and even more I love the reasons I made it.

I was planning to make a different image, wanted to use myself as a model and have a girl with Yeats' poem book sitting there on the ruins and reading it on rain.. and then I had the idea of other girl sitting on rain and having the last flower under bell jar and protecting it.. and as I realized no way i am making two rain pieces, I combined the ideas to this one.

I adore the model expression - it is just amazing how much atmosphere you can just create with simple way the model looks.. the little "I do not care" look or I have no idea how to describe that supercilious, neglectful feeling.. it is pouring, it is so wet and cold.. and it is in the middle of the night but she does not care... she has her dreams, her own reasons and she stays - to protect those white flowers, the last reminder of the spring and light what once was..

And the poem.. I do not know if I have ever written but I totally adore the poetry of Yeats and Tennyson.. they both have amazing and so soul touching poems.. and this one.. I loved it before "Equilibrium" and when I saw the movie.. and Sean Bean reading it.. (ah.. He is one of my favorite actors).. it got a totally new meaning.. and for me.. my art.. it is my dream and I say treat softly.. because I care so much on what I make.. and I have habit of taking too seriously what people say.. so.. a very special poem and words used to this piece.. I usually try not to do that as I am afraid I can ruin it for me.. or be disappointed.. I hope it won't happen this time...

Beautiful image. Stunning in fact.
I'm not trying to be a downer, but her left leg looks a bit on the thick, don't you think?

And I once did a poetry project on He Wishes For the Cloths of Heaven.

mm.. the left leg tries to be under to bond. or water or grass. or however to call it.. I know it did not come out best.. as I just did not managed to paint the bond in realistic way

I saw Equilibrium too. I loved it, but especially that scene with Sean Bean where he reads the poem. That was one of the best parts in the whole movie.

I love the way you weaved together the theme of the contest, and the line of the poem you use as your signature, and that being in the movie, all into the piece. Aesthetically the picture is absolutely gorgeous. It has a certain tinge of almost hopeless and wanting to give up, but there's still a definite air of defensiveness and refusal to do so. I LOVE this piece.
