Description

So someone on reddit (I’ll dig up the username) reddit user /u/totallytman had mentioned wanting to see a sort of RWBY/Fallout crossover. At the time, this seemed like a good idea. It actually still does, but HOLY CRAP IS COLOR HARD.

So the main design here is based mostly off of the Fallout New Vegas riot gear for two reasons. One was that it was one of the few armors that has the cloak design that works with Ruby’s original, and the other being that it obfuscates much of her physical appearance. This is as much a personal preference as it is at attempting to have some basics for a story with the image. She is still young for an NCR trooper.

The gun isn’t really in game, but I didn’t want to just use Crescent Rose because it wouldn’t have fit as well. Since much of the Fallout series is stuff just welded together, it didn’t seem entirely impossible to have something that was functionally similar to CR, while still looking like it was put together from scraps lying around the Mojave Wasteland. I even worked out some mechanics for how it would extend/retract involving a chainsaw motor and steel cable. It’s probably not physically possible but neither is the Shishkebab.

And she has a Pip Boy because, well, main character.

I actually learned a lot about line work and colors since starting this that I really want to use next time I spend so much time on a drawing. By the end though I was really just playing around with brush settings.

Nicely done. And yeah color can be a butt. But like anything it takes practice. Or cheating Most digital art programs that allow for layers can be used to cheat. You make your image in black and white to get your shadows and highlights and then overlay a layer of color on the parts you want to be a certain color. You can then go back over it again to pull out more highlights/darker shadows.
