March 15th, 2005, 15 minutes after early warning radar detected an unidentified flying object entering the atmosphere somewhere over eastern Russia, two Ceres IV interceptors at the West Pacific base are being rushed to their launch catapults. Ceres IX's pilot is yelling for his gunner to hurry up, as they are already 35 seconds behind Ceres VIII.

In November 2004 when what had been a secret agreement between alien powers and the Russian government was leaked to the public, a bloody civil war erupted across the already economically battered country. Since then, the UN orbital defense force has placed a priority on clearing Russian airspace.

The Ceres IV (nicknamed 'Fireball' for the plasma trail it creates) is a hybrid scramjet/rocket craft designed to intercept alien space craft at unprecedented hypersonic speeds.
