Description National Zoo - Washington, D.C.

Despite its appearance, the glass lizard is very different from snakes. Some species make this more apparent than others, possessing stubby but visible legs near their vent (genital area, if you don't know). Less noticable, but always present, are external ear openings (like seals) and functioning eyelids (they can blink) that separate all glass lizards from snakes.
