Lovely shot! Quite interesting textures and patterns here.
I think it's pretty awesome that you managed to catch him looking right at you! I almost feel like he was on a journey, but stopped just for a split second for you to snap this shot. Almost like he knew all about cameras! Anyways - excellent timing!
There's some great color contrast here as well! The greens in the background really bring out the blue and grey tones of the bird. Nice scene!
However, I do find the background quite distracting. The shallow DOF helps, but the overexposed patches of light caught my eye right away and it's hard to focus on just the bird. Looks like your shutter speed was pretty slow - which means more light. Perhaps if you could've found a slighter different angles without the trees, or tried a few different camera settings that would've helped. I know it was a quick shot though.
I also wish his feet weren't cut off, but that would also be fixed with whole angle thing.
