stage one is blocking in the head. as you can see the values are very high. too high, in fact.

so in stage two - after adding some lovely hair - i darkened the entire image. and then i painted the light back in.

then i darkened it again! and painted the light back in again!

the fourth stage is a continuation of stage three, it's just more focused on the highlights.

stage five is the finished piece.
