This has been a difficult year for everyone. Disaster, disease, and despair seem to greet us at every turn. Many of us feel isolated and hopeless, especially those of us who were already marginalized.

It is more important than ever that we show compassion to each other.

To my siblings in the LGBT+ community, I implore you to remember our heritage. We owe so many of the rights we have today to black and brown activists: Marsha P. Johnson, Sylvia Rivera, Audre Lorde, Stormé DeLarverie, Bayard Rustin, Miss Major Griffin-Gracy, and so many more. The black community is grieving, and we need to stand in solidarity with them. Our futures, just like our pasts, are deeply intertwined.

We will survive this storm together.
