Question: Looking over the Madefire Terms of Use, I noticed the (completely justified) prohibition of use that violates intellectual property rights. Does that disallow us from making fan comic Motion Books? (They would have to be free of charge either way...)

Well I can see why we aren't allowed to make motion books with fan comics. Wither its fan or not, you'd be making money off someone else's characters like batman or something. Copyright law is serious, no loopholes.
Only reason why we can draw fanart and fanstories is because we do not sale them unless its our own work.
I wish we could use fan comics on it. But I am sure it won't fly

Hi if you have a doubt , ask the authorisation to the owners of the rights of the work you want to use as the base of your fanfiction

Asking large multimillion companies is too much of a hassle; that's why nobody asks. I would, but you know, it would just end up in their junk mail most likely. Since most Nintendo fandoms have a thriving fanfic scene, I'd say that they don't mind all that much, but that's just an assumption.

Well, it depends on how you use other's property: let's say: a parody or a satire. (Young Frankenstein, or Airplane for example) or an expansion on creative property (Mary Reilly, or The League of Extraordinary Gentleman). All the example took characters from others and yet again gain money of their own product, in despise of that. Clearly, it is better if is original, an if in based onto others property you can really bring something new to the table, something good (which I believe the example I gave do) than being having the better Manager and Lawyer ( which sadly ends up being the case most of the time)

Hi there! There's a whole section on dA where you can already see the books that have been published - www.deviantart.com/motionbooks…
The preview image is the equivalent of the cover, or the first page.

Certainly! You can submit your individual pages to deviantART and allow downloads of those image files for anyone to use, or you can upload them to your Sta.sh and share them with specific individuals, if working on a collaboration.

I have a question...I am working with a company that develop, produce, and publish educational products and literature for Deaf and hearing learners from pre-K through college. I'd like to construct educational stories via Motion Book Tool, at no cost (not planning to sell them), and embed them in our website to be used by the teachers as a part of their lessons. Would that be permissible? Just wondering. Thanks!

LiamRSharp In reply to Tjdavi [2014-08-06 22:36:24 +0000 UTC]
Yes, you can do whatever you like. The tool creates a URL that you can send anybody, and they can read it in their browser. If there's no cost attached it's viewable by everyone, anywhere.
Hope that helps!

Sorry about a wall of text here, but to answer your question (and because I wanted to know the same thing) I read through the Terms and Conditions.
I found that you need the Madefire Software to read those motion books, which means they can't be distributed randomly. To sell them, you need either a DeviantArt account or the Madefire Application from Apple's App Store. To me it seems like everyone would be able to buy and read them, if they have the software and access to DA or Apple's App Store.
At least I understand it that way, please correct me if I'm wrong - understanding these things can be tricky sometimes.
Added the specific passages below too, if you want to read them yourself.
Oh and sorry for wall of text. ^^'

remitted to Madefire. If the terms of the deviantART application platform change such that
deviantART takes a higher or lower percentage than indicated above, such new percentage
will govern as specified by deviantART.
(ii) Apple iOS: For all Developer Software offered to end users via the Madefire application
(accessible subsequent to downloading the Madefire application from Apple’s App Store),
30% of all gross revenues will be retained by Apple and 20% of all gross revenues will be

You do, or you can hire someone. Professional Format refers more to the level of animation and movement and such you incorporate into the piece and how, I suppose, advanced the comic looks.

Try using the "Move" effect instead. Place the logo where you want it to start, then when you add the "Move" effect it will allow you to control how far to the left or right and how far up and down it moves and you can position it to where you want it to end up and how long it takes to get there. You can add a "scale" effect on top of that to get it to shrink/grow while it's moving as well.
Hope that helps!

OH! i did not see that. duh. very good!
is there a way to group assets but leave them with their effects in place? i have part of the logo fading in, and part of it falling into place, then i want to move them together as a unit. i put the top piece as a sub-layer of the top piece, but then it lost the effects i had put on it, and i couldn't seem to control it by itself?
or is there a way to apply an effect to more than one asset at a time? i tried ctrl or shift clicking in the list, but that didn't work.
or a way to copy an effect to another asset? like i want two things to 'fade in' at the same start time and end time and blah blah blah. you know? without having to go through the dialogue every time. (it does keep the previous settings in it, i should organize my workflow to do the same effect/timings all at once, but i tend to work back and forth on stuff.)
thanks guys!
uh, but um... is there going to be a forum? or is this it? : )

That I'm not sure about. You can add more than one effect to the same asset at the same time, bar a few instances (can't have it fading in and fading out at the same time, for example). You just have to add each effect one at a time and go through the whole set up each time. It can be a bit of a pain, but that's the only way I've found to do it.
Yeah, I've had to modify my workflow a bit with this thing as well because I worked back and forth as well and it was easy to get lost. I find it really helps to work in the exact order you intend the page to go in though. Helps things run a little smoother.
I know there's a zendesk for the tool, but I'm not sure about a straight up forum. I'll look around once I get home since I'm on my work computer right now and don't have access to any of my saved links.
