My favorite aspect of State Street is its’ diversity. State Street offers an array of choices from political debates to art galleries and music concerts. These concerts could consist of street performers rapping or playing the accordion, to the opera right across the street. One never knows what to expect—old women with designer handbags and lush furs departing the opera often stop to listen to a troupe of bums with various musical instruments, soliciting handouts in a well-worn hat. And that’s just an appetizer. With such a diverse populace, one could only anticipate an equivalent plethora of dining experiences. On Friday one might experience an entrée from a small Tibetian restaurant served by native waiters, while hearing of the political oppression Tibetians are facing. Whereas on Saturday, one might select from Russian, Italian, Afgani, African, Greek, Mexicans, Indian, Himalayan, French, German, Irish, Caribbean, Japanese, Turkish, or Thai cuisine. State Street has made me accepting. I feel like so much of what I am, I am because I grew up with State Street as my playground.
