Description My head is full of all things concerning The Hobbit at present (mainly the heirs of Durin) and was listening to Celtic Woman's "The Foxhunter" on repeat. I could not get the image out of my mind of a young Thorin in Erebor dancing at a feast. It is a beautiful song. [link]
The dance I had in mind includes the use of a sash that the woman unties from his waist and then wraps around her own so that he can use it for momentum and keeping their form through the steps and lifts. The dance resembles Irish step dancing greatly, with Thorin's part including some more of the hard-shoe steps that are masculine and more like stomping in parts (for which I added metal casings to the toe and heel of his boots to make great noise), and the woman's part more soft-shoe and involving lifts, jumps, and light, swift footwork.
... I listened to this song A LOT and thought about this probably too much. At least I acted on this inspiration by making this group of drawings to illustrate my idea. I'm quite pleased with them, and they're my first attempts at Thorin. I think he turned out quite handsome. ^_^
Obviously this dwarrow-lady is an OFC I created, and I imagined her being Balin's daughter. All this time dwelling on the scenario planted the seed of my new head-canon which has Thorin and this maiden in the midst of courtship when Smaug comes, perhaps even newly betrothed when Erebor is destroyed. She is wounded and nowhere to be found amidst their escape and believed dead, grieved for long and sorely by both Thorin and Balin. Somehow a family of Laketown took her in, being too injured to be sent away (perhaps a broken leg), and it is a year or more before she's healed enough to take her leave and seek out her displaced father and kin who are wandering homeless. Eventually she is reunited with Thorin and her father, tears pouring forth in buckets because they thought the other had been killed, and a marriage soon takes place even though it's tinged with the sadness that they might never again have the sort of feast they had in Erebor that night dancing together.
... Well, I guess at some point I'll be writing that AU fan fiction! -___- *not sorry*

Individual scans of these drawings are in my Scraps.
