I think a word I can say is- finally. This was meant to be a silly little sketch, and that's about what it still is. But the trouble with it has been wayyyy more than expected. Very sketchy I know, not something that looks like it should be a lot of trouble, but that's what's been so surprising. The bridge has been part of the trouble, but rendering mountains and hillsides with side light has been more than I expected. I think atmospherics at night have something to do with it. Just getting it to look like something more rounded than a Velvet Elvis, and the mountains and high lights to be more than a collection of streaks. The composition in light and dark turned up several problems, and it's not really together at this point. Taking forever. Just get it to the point of a coherent sketch and move on. I'm hoping I have learned some stuff from it though, to bring to more complete pictures.
