History:
As a young child Kokuchi traveled constantly with only his father, a merchant and a con-man, who treated him as more of a tool and accomplice than a son.
Kokuchi's continued appearance of youth and innocence made him a fine pawn in plans involving guilt trips, vulnerable bait, and distractions. He was ingrained with acting skills far beyond crocodile tears, and slight of hand that could be missed by a Fearow.
The estranged and emotionally detached relationship became normal for Kokuchi all too quickly. It was far too easy to project his father's personality onto the rest of the world, growing to hate the rich, greedy, and gullible, and finding little importance in those too poor to extract a profit from.
After years of the cycle of survival, extortion, and indulgence, his father got in over his head, forming a relationship with a valuable but dangerous woman. Although Kokuchi was far past being bothered by his father's deceptions, he wanted no part in his downfall, and ran away just days before the woman learned of his father's scheming ways. Whatever consequences were had, Kokuchi made no attempt to inquire after his father's fate.
He survived on his own for a good 3 years, his innocent and pitiful looks holding out, his acting impeccable, and his sense for sniffing out valuable targets in a crowd only grew stronger. Unfortunately, so did his distaste for people's naivete and his inner thoughts turned a bit more sour and distrustful.
At the age of 13, and under the entirely convincing guise of being 8 or otherwise childlike, was taken in by Hiku's family. He followed Hiku's older brother home from the marketplace after the Charmeleon spent an exorbitant amount of money buying gifts for family members. With the intention of skimming some of the wealth from the dragon, he was sorely dissapointed to find that his target dwelled in a forge with a similarly working class family.
In a fit of rage, Kokuchi barged in anyway, at first just yelling at them for spending so much and having such a misleading presence. The tantrum was misinterpreted by Hiku's mother, who decided the energetic poverty stricken orphan merely need a family and some discipline. Kokuchi relented to her kindness and invitation to stay for dinner, and quickly decided it would serve him well to take advantage of such willing targets, especially after learning of the father's wealthy history.
He settled into the position of the "baby" of the family, somewhat spoiled by Hiku's desire to bring him back baubles from his travels just to see him smile, the elder brother's brusque but pleasant attitude and generosity, and the family's potentially powerful connections.
Within the first couple of years, he might still insist that he despises their gullibility and the ease with which he took advantage of them, but now he will boast about his mother's skills and his brothers' kindness, feeling a sort of superiority for having a place in their family.

He may yet have malicious goals and intentions that he has no reason to share with those he does not trust and would not dare sharing with those he has chosen to hold dear.
It can be extremely difficult to tell whether his playful side is merely clever acting or if it is him indulging in a childhood that he missed out on.
He had never much minded the quality of his sleeping arrangements, however skeevy the location or company might be, but lately he has found he would prefer to keep his plush place in Hiku's family's home available. The very thought that he may be attached to some sort of luxury (or people) makes him very agitated.

Kokuchi has found some small tutelage with Akisu, another local sneakthief, and he finds the meowth quite a fun target to tease. He isn't sure who might be learning from who since the both of them seem quite arrogant and eager to show off when told they might not be the expert they think themselves to be, but its sort of fun to make Akisu play teacher anyway. Kokuchi will never ever admit aloud that he enjoys the praise when he does a sneaky thing as instructed.

He's not one for keeping track of his age. He might well believe that he's only 10 years old, given how long he's stuck to the story under the Charizard family's watchful eyes.
Enjoys being out and about during the evening, when those out to have a good time can be more easily taken advantage of. And weather is nicer and less extreme.
Often hide smoke bombs and other trinkets up his sleeves, and reluctantly keeps a small wooden doll that Hiku gifted to him on his person at all times.
If he hangs around long enough in one place there's a tendency to feel like one is being watched, but it's probably just because he tends to attract other stray cats, and cats tend to do a lot of staring. Yeah. That's probably all it is.
