Today, Goji and Devan talk during their downtime about how the Digivice iC, in all honesty, has a lot more too it than any modern device including even the Vital Bracelet.
Even when taking the VB Arena App into account (which is still considered gutted when compared to the Vital Lab), the VB doesn't allow you to really care for your Digimon. At the end of the day, it just totals up your vitals (inaccurately) and your Digimon changes accordingly. The Digivice iC allows you to battle through different colosseums, buy items at different shops, play minigames and dress up your Digimon. To me that makes your Digimon feel more like an actual living thing, rather than just a sprite that represents how many squats you did.
Plus, given Bandai's track record, who knows how long we have until the app shuts down entirely. As someone who cannot afford a new high end phone, I have experienced the VB BE without the app and it is frankly abysmal.
