Instead of Julius Caesar taking his Legions across the Rubicon in 49 BC, he instead declared the Roman province of Gaul as independent, making himself Dictator. This appalled the Roman Republic who's Senate immediately called for war against the general. Julius Caesar won what at the time was considered a Roman civil war, but was later mythologized into the Caesarian war of independence. Caesar, with the threat of Rome pacified, went on to conquer Britannia, the North Sea coast and parts of Germania. He finally died as in 20 BC at 79 years of age and was seen by his people as a second Romulus, naming their new nation Caesarea in his honor. In the subsequent century after Caesars death, the contrast between the two Latin nations increased with the Republican Latins in the south and the Imperial Latins in the north.
