Description Note: This is one the paintings for my final thesis project.

Short summary of the main theme:
A simple but highly important issue in collective idea of life is that “human beings” has a meaning. But the “meaning of man” is something that is likely been buried long ago. It is something very rarely considered that “the life of man is important in some way”. Not many in this busy life know for sure who or what a man actually is or should be according to many important things. The sense of true belief is missing. A belief on something, a meaning that makes man all precious and important as he should be, because he is. This buried thought is depicted as something that is rejected just like a crumpled paper. An old thought thrown away as mankind aged along time and swirl of the world.

Reference and inspirational aspects:
Combination of a few quotes and my own taste with this particular topic, I chose some selected verses from the exclusively divine poetry of Allama Iqbal’s.

Painting theme:
Selected verse for this specific piece is,

Abtar az andesha-e-sood o zayan hay zindagi,
hay kabhi jan aur kabhi tasleem-e-jan zindagi.
(Allama Iqbal)

Paraphrase: Life is more aloft then the fear of gain and loses. Sometimes the soul and sometimes to surrender the soul is life.

Symbols:
Two surfaces: As two aspects of life.
Standing man: As a stable human life.
Crouched man: As a suffered human life.
Light in the hand: As surrendering one’s life.
Torn paper from the middle: As lose.
Water drop: As temporary gain.

Media:
Oil on canvas.

Size:
2’ X 7’ Feet (each)

all i know how to say about this (besides a big WOW i love it) is that the fragility of the lines is incredibly emotive> and the choice of color as well ~ the water droplets chosen to represent what they do--- YES!!! love it. perfect, and well done. the whole idea is complex and beautiful, and truly just like my dreams... i'm so glad you got all that recognition-- i'd say you deserved it. i'm no art critic. yet. ... but i'm thinking about it.
i wish i could own this... really. it's one of the most beautiful and meaningful things i've seen in quite a while that i identify with so closely. those figures=me, i *feel* them. i know them.
good job.

Oh my...!!! You seem to be stuck with it. *laughs* ok well, I'll pull you out. It could have been your's or even mine still, but fate decided someone else's fortune on this one. It got sold on it's very first public exhibition. I lost it now. But........... it'll remain with me just in the same way it'll remain with you.

I'm so deeply moved by your words. Thanks a zillion, even though I have no idea how to count it out... *phew*.

wow. this piece just has so many multi-layered meanings. the unbelievable thing is how well you've managed to answer, using art, a deeply complicated question. and deep cosmic issues aside, this work is just flat out aesthtically pleasing. this is without question one of my all time favorite pieces here on DA. amazing amazing work and a BIG :favlove:

lovely piece I like the division by the panel-like borders and the connection of both pieces with the background. you'r definitley a very talented artisit and display greater aesthetic thought in this piece. good luck with your thesis! (I'm not sure you need it but it seems like the right thing to say)

GREAT WORK!

RealMenThink In reply to ??? [2004-08-19 23:32:51 +0000 UTC]

excellent.

what i gather through this : This belief system we have lost is possibly the fact that, since the dawn of civilization 10,000 years ago man has experienced a "great forgetting", in which we have removed ourselves from our niche(or, purpose) within the natural world.(all life on this planet fufills We have separated ourselves from the universe and, at least some, are desperately seeking to find that place again. I think to find the "purpose of man" we really look no further then the history of mankind before our civilization. We must look toward those indigenous peoples who still exist today living as their ancestors have sucessfully for much longer then our young culture. Sadly, we oddly have some fixation with annihiliating these peoples who are existing proof of something deeper and older then we can imagine. The fact is that, we are not humanity. We are simply one - giant - culture. And we are suffering far too much for crumpling up the ways of life that got us here through millions of years of evolution and time. We need to reach into the trash - get that notion of life - unravel it - and start again. It wont be easy, but it must be done.

Initially, thank you so much for appreciating my work and taking such a long time for considering and observing the minor most detail you could grasp. It's always wonderful to have people around who try to follow up with the artist, their views and also involve their own experinces.

I truly agree and admire the way you judged this painting. Indeed many says we should learn from the past, yet we move on making same mistakes over and over. Crumpling present, that leads to future, also forgetting our past. But, hope always lay within every person, and even now, many of us are very much capable of plotting our lives with less crumples and wrinkles.

I am impressed by the symbolism that emanates from this painting. In these days, we hardly stop to think about the meaning of life, about what we really are, what we really desire. Your work, fantastic indeed, makes me feel less lonely when i am into such feelings. Thank you
